It`s funny to read about these roster predictions that Vegas is going to get, some of them are way off.

The Las Vegas Dessert Knights, brought to you by the buffet at the Bellagio...

I like it.

Or the Las Vegas Desert Gnats...

Or the Las Vegas Dour Knapes.

Dastardly Noids?

How about the Las Vegas 4 Knights, Get one knight free?

Is it September yet?

Anyone else find it odd that a Junior team is preventing a brand new NHL team from using the Knights because of copyrights? It's not like there aren't any junior teams with NHL names (Kitchener Rangers and CharlotteTown Islanders)

It is also expected CAR will offer Raffi Torres a PTO

Wow...just when I thought the Canes were doing smart things....huge step backwards there...

http://www.lfpress.com/2016/08/08/l...ause-london-knights-own-copyright-on-the-name

“The London Knights own the name in Canada, and to acquire the name from London is not economically feasible,†Foley told the newspaper.

“In the U.S. ‘Knights’ are fine. But we can’t use it in Canada, Foley said.â€

I read somewhere in the last couple of days that Foley is also considering Sand Knights, which is awful...

I propose "The Fremont Regret"

honestly I thought they would have gone for (Las Vegas) "bandits", "outlaws" or "heat"

They haven't done anything yet. It's just a tryout. Francis played with Ulf Samuelsson, so, he might not mind that particular skill. That's if Torres could even make the team, which at soon to be 35 and barely playing for 3 years isn't a sure bet.

It is just a PTO, sometimes you just need a warm body. They have a couple of back-to-backs in preseason and typically veterans wouldn't dress for both. I went to a Devils preseason game a few years back with Mike Komisarek and Tomas Kaberle on defense. Both were in camp on PTOs.

I remember a few years ago that the Canucks got some flack for bringing in Owen Nolan and a couple other guys on PTOs. Vancouver wanted to rest their guys and it's actually defined in the CBA about the minimum number of veterans you must dress for a preseason game. Vancouver dressed Nolan (and the others) to fulfill the minimum requirement but realistically those guys had no shot at making their roster.

Looks like all the changes to the goalie equipment won't be ready for another year...change takes time. Some will be implemented this year.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sp...kely-before-2017-18-nhl-season-391756991.html

Reductions were to be made to the pants and upper body equipment, but it's now thought that only the pants stand even a chance of being ready when the regular season gets underway in mid-October. Certain elements of the altered chest protector gear may be available later in the year.

Both Campbell and Schneider said the biggest challenge was co-ordinating production of the new equipment with various manufacturers. The two sides, steered by Kay Whitmore from the NHL and Rob Zepp from the NHLPA, were relying on manufacturers to design new models with the proposed reductions, a process riddled with disappointment and frustration.

Just call LV the Black Knights. It's ridiculous that, because Army is the Black Knights, Vegas can't use it. What's next? Winnipeg can't be the Jets because of NY? Texas Rangers need to change because of NYR? Etc etc. I don't see an issue unless LV wants to trademark "Army Black Knights" or use the same logo.
Foley pays $500m and he can't choose the name he wants? Incredible.

in other news Stoll signed a PTO with the Blue Jackets. Thought he maybe done .

He is done, but he is a veteran with two Cup rings who can win faceoffs so teams will continue to give him a shot to see if anything is left. I would be shocked if he makes the team out of camp, he was abysmal last year for NYR and Minnesota. Amazing how quickly Stoll and Richards turned into Hunter and Moreau.

Yeah, especially Richards. Those 2 partied way too hard and it didn't help their longevity at all, it makes one prone to burning out quicker. I know if Richards hadn't had been concussed one too many times, he might still be playing in a higher capacity. His demise always bums me out because he was one of my favorite players in his heyday.
