Sounds like Chicago is the favorite for Vessey. If they get him i think Hawks take the cup again. Its amazing what they are able to accomplish and continue to ice the rosters they do .

I didn't realize Vesey was such a difference maker. Cup favorites for signing a prospect? Hahaha. Guess he must be as good as McDavid...

Disagree. I thnk Boston and Buffalo are the frontruners, esp Boston, Toronto has an outside shot because of his father working for the Leafs. But right now, for my money it would be boston.

http://thehockeywriters.com/derick-brassard-trade-martin-st-louis-text/

Brassard finds out he's traded when Martin ST Louis texts him. Every time this happens, it annoys me. You trade a player, he should the first phone call after the trade is agreed upon.

It's totally classless on a GM's part to allow that to happen. Player's gonna be shocked to being with, but to find out from a text like that? He gave your team a chance to win, competed , won battles, etc. And you can't call him first?

I've been in SF all week, wearing my Kings Stanley Cup shirt, have spotted a guy in a Rangers shirt and another in an Oilers shirt. Have yet to spot any fans wearing Sharks gear.

SF, is Giants/49ers land. Hockey is an after thought up there. Whole lot of Sharks fans by me though in the Central Valley.

They are in the South Bay area as well. But many don't get that you can't ride BART into San Jose yet. Once that opens up next year I think there will be more fans going north.

Saw a lady driving yesterday with a Leafs license plate frame, and a silver Maple Leaf badge on her car. Pretty odd seeing that in LA.

It's not about Vessey being the difference maker it's about adding more depth to a great lineup already. They have Schmaltz and few other kids ready to step up too. They got Panarin for cheap , they find talent and go after them and keep evolving with the game.

Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
-Toews-Hossa
Vessel,Schmaltz,Kruger,Kero,

Keith-Seabrook
Hammer-Campbell
TVR-Gustafsson/Kempny/Rosival

Exactly. I could see Chicago having a resurgence next year with the added depth of Kempny and Vesey. They already filled a hole on D with Campbell and have one of the top lines in the league.

Chicago's main area of weakness (if they have one) was on D. They got Campbell for dirt cheap. Even without Vessey they will be a tough team this year

Ducks just got Vermette. That #1 PK just got better. Not to mention their insane depth at center. Vermette would be their 4th line center.

son of a *****!!

Edit: 2 year at less than $2M per....that sucks for everyone that is not a Duck supporter.

I don't know. I'm thinking there was a very good reason he was bought out of his contract.....

I moved up to the East Bay (North Berkeley) about a year ago and while I have not noticed a ton of Sharks supporters, there is one guy up the street whose econobox is painted/wrapped in early 2000s' Sharks regalia, bumper to bumper. Not lazy, half-arsed the way a 'Yotes fan might do it, but clean and professional. Matching teal sharks leap forward from the doors and across the front quarter panels, chomping thorough hockey sticks.

I'll get a get a photo the next time I walk by, maybe with a Matti Norstrom Smitti in the foreground.

I think, Better at 3rd line C, Rackell played wing last year for a bit , got 4 g, 8 pts in 11 games and looked very comfortable.

It would give them 3 solid lines. They have enough forward pieces to move some around to make that work.

So I don't think it's a given he is on the 4th line .

Great pickup for them.

The reason is , as was evident last year with all the rookies they had, they are going younger and have the talent to do that.

THe new GM wants a youth movement, both STrome and Dvorak have played well enough to make the team. I Think STrome is gonna be good, great size, physical and skilled.

Solid pickup for the Ducks. I'd honestly rather have Vermette than Purcell at this point, at least he could have filled the 3C void (a more important position). Really hope our youth can make a difference next year, we're ****ed if they can't...

Vermette was once a young prospect. The Ducks also got Stewart and Santorelli cheap last summer.

Maybe if Vermette and Purcell had been available at the same time, Lombardi would've gone with Vermette. Or they have faith in Dowd, and would've gone Purcell anyway.

Dowd has good size and showed some promise last year, though he made some dumb mistakes. Hopefully that can be hashed out by the coaching staff. I take it management has bet on one of Lewis/Shore/Dowd being able to fill the 3C spot.

Then why did Arizona sign Vrbata?

different position I am guessing. Maybe they wanted to open up a center spot for a young guy but needed a veteran winger. I do not know. Plus they are two vey different players. One is one dimensional offensive, and the other is a two way guy

Didn't they buyout Vermette because he has a NMC? They would've had to protect him even though he's a UFA summer 2017 I think. Didn't want to waste a spot on him.

At worst Vermette would've taken a minute a game of PK away from Kopitar.

Yeah, you're probably right. Still have to wait and see what they do with Fowler too. That should bring back a nice young forward. Like with most teams, it'll come down to the Gibson and if he can handle being a full time starter.
