Haven't been on here for awhile and just found out about the trades but Edmonton continues to be a stinken joke. Hall for Larsson! GTFOH! Sheesh. And haven't read all the comments but I'm pretty sure I"m not the only one thinking why the heck would you trade Webber for Subban. Webber all day everyday for me.

SIAP, but I assume this will be addressed in the next CBA. Nashville would literally not be able to field a team if he retired a year before the contract ended.

So I'm reading that right? If he was to retire, $24+ mill would count against the Preds cap in the last year? Holy ****. :amazed:

On NHL radio they were saying another West coast team offered a #1-2 D but wanted Hall and the 4th pick. Wonder who that was? Could have been Lombardi offering up Muzzin?

could also be the blues and Shattenkirk. They seem to want a mountain for him

That is if he retired the last year. The bottom number is the total recapture number and you'd divide that number by the numbers of years remaining in the contact.
That is why the number goes up every year.

Says "west coast" not "western conference". Unless people back east or in Canada think Missouri is on the west coast. (This is a shot at the source, not you)

haha..missed that thought it abbreviated conference as conf. Just skimmed the quote.

This reminded me of when I worked in Edmonton at a hotel I had a lady from texas call to request and ocean front room! I tried to be polite as possible to explain to her where Alberta is located and that it is a land locked province. She asked how far of a drive we were from the ocean and I said about 16 hours. She refused to believe me. I almost felt like I was on a radio show of some sort.

 :help:

The only people in the states who know the difference between BC and Alberta are hockey fans.

Listening to Stamkos talk about Loyalty is why he stayed in Tampa is BS. If he was that Loyal he would have signed this deal back in december and not wait till he could talk to other clubs.

I think Stamkos realized that the other teams weren't offering him much more than a no-tax 8.5 from Tampa.

Here's another thing Toronto can't offer to Stamkos:

- Playing with a franchise dman in Victor Hedman
- Playing for a team that can win a Cup
- Playing with a team that has an insane amount of depth up and down the lineup

Going to be interesting to see what they do this summer. I'm expecting another 8-term deal coming up for them with the Hedman extension.

Well some feel Reilly is a franchise D-man. I think he is a good 2/3 like Muzzin.
Looking at Toronto's prospect pool I think that #3 could become the case (plus look at all their picks going forward) and perhaps #2 is on the horizon.

Stamkos looked at his after tax $$ and realized it was about the same, and then took the deal that doesn't have nearly as much pressure as playing Toronto does. That's my take

To be fair, some teams would have to offer 11+ million to equal the amount He'd make in Florida due to tax.

So technically, he still got the money he wanted.

yup,

with all the tax talk around stamkos's contract I wonder how much extra PK is pocketing from moving to Tax High montreal to nashville.

Also I wonder if this will be in the next CBA. basically team caps will be different based on tax rates.

Maybe they could have player salary ignore tax and teams pay their players taxes for them separately from their cap hit.

No it won't be.
It's not that way in any other league and the NHL has no control over tax policy.
It would also mean having to make adjustments in the middle of the season to the cap. New tax rates go into effect in almost every jurisdiction on Jan 1st, the start of the new year.
And the way that tax is figured for athletes is based off where they play. So where playing in a low tax state can help for half the season the rest is taxed where you play.
And anyone thinking that anyone that makes any money pays close to what the tax rate is listed at I have some nice ocean front property for you in Arizona.
The tax argument is one that those that lost like to make.
