He's not going to turn into Victor Hedman, which many thought was his upside in his draft year.

On a good team, he's a second pairing defenseman. On a bad team, he's a #1 dman.

Come to think of it, this is the same man who also traded Tyler Seguin, so it makes perfect sense.

I think he's trending to become Vlasic 2.0. Just my opinion. All the tools are there and he's grown massively in the last season +.

I wouldn't give up a young sniper capable of potting 30+ goals who can also generate 50-60+ points for a defensive dman who's career high is 3 goals, 24 points, and has only been able to appear in one full season.

Easier to find defensive dmen than to acquire a young sniper.

Chiarelli will regret this trade.

If he was an offensive defenseman who's career high was 3 goals and 24 points, that would be something. If he's a defensive guy, why highlight his offensive numbers?

Maybe Hall is better defensively than he's shown in Edmonton because they've been so bad as a team at it. Maybe Larsson is better offensively than what he's shown in NJ, since they've not been all that offensive in his time there, especially after losing Parise and Kovalchuk. It's a complex mix building a team.

When selected 4th overall, Larsson was defined as a franchise dman. A franchise dman carries the play and controls the tempo of a game with his play. Larsson does not do that.

Damn guys, Kings could've had Taylor Hall for Brayden McNabb.

That's why these charts are pretty laughable to me. So much context is wiped away so everyone can just look at a chart and be able to say who is a better player.

When selected 1st overall, you would think that guy could lead his team to a playoff game within 6 years of being drafted. For all the goals and points Hall has put up in his career, not one of them has been important.

Taylor Hall isn't the reason why the Oilers failed to reach the playoffs. This line of thinking matches the logic behind trading Tyler Seguin for the Bruins failure to win the Cup in 2013.

So, with Taylor Hall to Devils, we have now seen all 1-6 of 2010 NHL draft picks traded before they turned 25. Was it something they said?

Hall
Seguin
Gudbranson
Johansen
Niederreiter
Connolly

And Chiarelli traded 3 of them..

If the previous management was so bad, was Hall the right choice? Maybe taking him ahead of Seguin was part of why they haven't made the playoffs. You could question everything they did because they were so inept.

Nobody knows what the Oilers will do from here on out. If they end up being more successful in part because of the trade, who cares what happened with Seguin? Just because something didn't work before, doesn't mean it won't work in a different environment. Just because something did work before, doesn't mean it will work again. If the Oilers don't improve, and Larsson ends up not having much impact, then the Oilers will have a new GM soon enough.

So many Canadian fans had their dreams dashed in like 10 minutes today. At least the boards are going to be entertaining for a few days. These deals also make free agency very interesting.

No kidding. Edm lose Hall, Habs lose Subban, Leafs lose out on Stamkos.

Can someone catch me up on the rumors? I just got in from being on vacation and saw the crazyness that went down today. Also saw Looch may as well be signed in EDM. *bummer for me I thought he would be great here*

If we lose Lucic are there rumors about who we are after to replace his offense, and are we actively looking at anyone for Defense?

Thanks in advance

I imagine there are a few GM's that would've given up more than Larson for Hall and are pissed that they weren't involved. I'm just glad the Ducks didn't swing a deal to get Hall or any of the Oilers youth.

On NHL radio they were saying another West coast team offered a #1-2 D but wanted Hall and the 4th pick. Wonder who that was? Could have been Lombardi offering up Muzzin?
