I would bet money that Montreal isn’t making the playoffs next year. This is their Cinderella run. They may still win, I’d still have them missing the playoffs. No way they will qualify over Florida, Tampa, Boston or Toronto.
It's tough to imagine this is their turning point and they don't play our out the season like they have most of the past years

Yeah this series is over. Montreal literally gave it their all tonight and dominated most of the game yet are down 3-1 with less than 5 to go. If they can't capitalize when TB is playing a lackluster game by their standards, then they have no chance when the Lightning go back to pushing the pace.

And you know Tampa will be burning the tape for this game. They'll be better in Montreal

Tampa just out there doing nothing for the most part. Skating around, bumping into things and still winning games. Crazy.

That is about as good a game as MTL can play. I'd be willing to say if the Leafs have Vassy we'd easily be a top team. The more I watch the playoffs the more I feel Campbell wasn't nearly good enough. The goals against for me were the Game 6 OT winner and the 1st one against in Game 7 (Galagher I think). Needed timely saves there on stoppable shots. Vassy is friggin stellar in big moments.

Not sure how Tampa won that game... but sure glad they did. So Tampa has yet to play a good 60 minutes are are up 2-0... I like their chances.

Hard to see the Habs winning 4 of the next 5, but that's why they play the games.

What's with the stupid schedule for this series? Games 3 and 4 should have been Thurs/Sat -- Canada Day and Canada's traditional hockey day. Morons!

Habs are basically a crappier and luckier 2003 Ducks. At least the Ducks had to go through Detroit (defending champ with stacked roster) and Dallas (#1 team in the West) on their way to the finals, not to mention they swept Detroit.

Hard to believe this looks to be an even more lopsided final than last year's, which in of itself was a relatively easy win for Tampa.

The sooner the better. Brings a fairly boring playoffs to an end and we can get on with the off season.
If Montreal misses the playoffs next year that'll be two years in a row where the SCF loser didn't even make the playoffs the year after. Wonder if that's ever happened before.

Good question. I think it may be a recent trend but could be wrong.

It fits with the whole Bettman "league parity", as a value. Gets as many different teams as possible into the finals over a period

Carolina and Anaheim didn't make the playoffs the year after their runs in the early 2000s.
Makes sense as those are the two teams that really come to mind for me when I think about comparables to this Habs team

Any team that has Vas is laughing, he’s unreal. With that said, Campbell is not our problem. The rest of the team not giving a crap is the problem.

Stop making excuses for Matthews and Marner. Also a (deserving) 9.5M dollar goalie isn't possible with 3 guys making double digits. Of course we could pull some shady cap dealings like the bolts, but under normal circumstances, a goalie like Vassy is a pipe dream given the team's makeup.

This is the type of game a team like the Leafs should have won against Montreal. Even if we're meh for most of the game goals get scored somehow. Tampa is a mature team that knows how to get it done. I think they win in 5 as Price is good enough to steal one game.

What are you even talking about? I never mentioned either of them. Just because I don't think Campbell was good enough, doesn't automatically mean I think the others were!

Agree that Tampa has figured it out. All I am saying is 1 more save and we probably have a very different dialogue going on around the Leafs.

I won't pretend that letting in certain goals isn't more deflating than others, however, Vasilevskiy has a 1.94 GA and a .936 Save% through the playoffs. Campbell had a 1.81 GA and a .934 Save%. I know you aren't directly giving M&M a pass, but we have to call a spade a spade here. We got great goaltending from Campbell and if you switch the Vassey and Campbell (just based on the numbers) Tampa might still be right here in the SCF. You can't say the same when the Leafs have overpaid no shows who can't produce.

How wonderful. Bergevin gets a life time extension for this run too which is a cherry on top of the cake.

Josh Anderson’s going to age like Clarkson lol.
I don’t get this, he’s all over the ice engaging and having offensive chances, is he capitalizing on said chances? No, but neither did AM/MM at twice the price. Habs won that trade and paid Anderson accordingly.I’d love him on the Leafs.
