In terms of offensive flow and production, I think the dreaded core would have better success against Tampa than they did vs Montreal. I could see a couple of high scoring 6-4 type games with teams trading chances. But they'd still probably take us out in five.

Or maybe we'd go the dramatic route by extending the series to game seven, and then we'd lose 5-0.

I don't think the Leafs could take a 3-1 series stranglehold on Tampa. Tampa probably takes a 3-1 stranglehold and finishes the Leafs in 5 games.

Leafs would put up a good fight. I think it would go like the Panthers series but without the violence.

I feel like if Florida had anything better than the worst goaltending performance in the playoffs out of any team, they would have beat the Lightning.

Tampa was really not that good in the first series.

That same Florida team that will be in our division along with Boston and TB. Can you say Wildcard or Kyle you are fired ??

We have a better roster than Florida or Boston right now. home ice in the playoffs should still be the expectation.

What they do from there is another question.
I see the off-season optimism is starting to ramp up, Leaf Nation has short term memory loss on steroids.

Not sure how you can make that statement when Boston and Florida both played better in the playoffs against better competition. Dubas will turn the roster over some so we'll have to see whether we are good enough to finish 1st or 2nd in the Atlantic.

We can't be scared of facing a good team in playoffs. This team needs to know they're in a fight from the get-go

Boston or Tampa would be ideal next year. I'd throw I'm NYI too. Good teams, we know we have to play hard against. Tampa coming off 2 deep playoff runs over a shorter than normal period and Boston has an aging core with some demons in our closet. Those would be perfect for this team. If they can't beat'em, you move on from the core. Really that simple.

Not saying they are scared to face anybody but they will be in for a dog fight for top 3 in the Atlantic. Until Dubas completes the roster I am not bullish as to how they stack up to Tampa, Boston and Florida. All 3 brought it in the playoffs. We folded again.

The more adversity we face (and overcome) next year the better. We were able to cruise through 55+ games this year.

How this team looks on paper doesn't matter at this point IMO.

Pretty much, but that makes the playoffs a harder task, and we know how well this group works under pressure.

The difference being that Marner is a $10M player in the regular season.

They had one of the best records in the league after Keefe took over his 1st season as well in this same division.

We were on the bubble in 2020 before COVID halted the season. Coach Q has that team playing lights out. I am more bullish on them after watching them in the playoffs but anything is possible.

The irony here is that it's pretty flawed to use the playoffs as predictive of future regular season results, just as it can be flawed to use the regular season to predict playoff outcome.

The Habs for example more than likely follow the Stars route of going straight from the finals to missing the playoffs. Boston may "look" like a playoff team when they played the Islander's but that doesn't mean they will do the same over 82 regular season games ect.

You are right. Ironically the Leafs had a bad playoffs and are expected to have a good regular season whereas the Habs had a great playoffs and many expect them not to make the playoffs next year.

Florida however seems to be trending up. They will get Ekblad back, Bennett for the whole season, Bob and Knight should give them solid goaltending and they have coach Q. We'll see.

Right now, my guess is that Florida will finish ahead of the Leafs.

Florida is a well-balanced team, with an excellent coach.
