Oilers..

Their PP went from 32.4% to 21.7%
Their GF/G went from 3.96 to 2.94
Their GA/G from 3.12 to 3.88

I get their Goalies, and team defense have been terrible, but why they are suffering an offensive blackout, is a bit of a mystery to me. How can the PP drop so badly, though it was due for some regression?

I'm not really even sure how they turn things around this season, the players look so demoralized.

Have to believe McDavid is playing through injury and his fall off has trickled down to everyone else. A less than 100% McDavid can't carry like usual. Also a good chance Ekholm ain't 100% either and the defence and especially Bouchard are suffering.

Clearly playing these guys, at not quite 100%... if that's the case, isn't working. Shut them down, and wait until their healthy. Continuing to do, what isn't working, is the definition of insanity.

Seriously. Oilers are better off shutting McDavid down for a month or however long it takes for him to heal up and hoping he can go God mode in the final half of the season and drag them to a wildcard spot. They aren't winning with him as is anyway.

Feels like theyve tried to inject some of those with the Foegle, Brown and Hyman signings. Even Ryan and Ekholm

I would be imagining a post McDrai world where they’re essentially the Florida Panthers of today. That’s the kind of look and feel of a team that would fit well with that city, but maybe not quite as name player heavy but still capable of generating some offense. Hell of a lot more scrappy, better spirit. Etc.

I agree that McDavid must be banged up but as the leader if he’s in the lineup he’s gotta also not be so visibly frustrated so that negative energy permeates everything.

Honestly, if the Leafs and Oilers swap their two highest player like 5yrs ago, AM and JT are Oilers and Drai and McD with the Leafs. Think the Leafs might had won a Cup by now or at the very least more than just winning a round.

That’s why it is quite fun to see them falling

Oh shit. Carolina better not blow this and make us all look silly, and maybe even catalyze an Oilers run. Hurricanes have been uncharacteristically average defensively this season though.

I agree, but where do you go from here overall. Tough to completely waste a season you entered as a cup favourite with no real changes, but theyd also be selling at rock bottom
A lot will probably depend what kind vibe they get from Draisaitl this summer. If he commits they probably tinker with the goaltending and try to install a more effective defensive scheme and this just might be the type of season that convinces them to buy in. It’s basically running it back but with, IMO, a much better chance to make a run
If Draisaitl shows an intention to move on to greener pastures, who knows what they’ll do.

It's probably because they have once again chose to rely on crappy goalies.

I think it’s about 80% Drai goes; in pressers even after they win he looks like he’d rather be anywhere else, and there’s been more losing than winning lately.

Whoever has the cap space to pay him 12+, is in the East and isn’t in a market where everything he says and does is put to the public gets him. Ironically enough he’d be an excellent fit on the team that just beat him but no way in hell do I want him on Carolina. It feels like a trade request isn’t too far away.

I had McDavid at 50:50 to stay but if they miss the playoffs like they probably will and he gets blamed for it which he probably will I see him testing UFA. I don’t think he’d demand a trade.
