I agree that McDavid must be banged up but as the leader if he’s in the lineup he’s gotta also not be so visibly frustrated so that negative energy permeates everything.

True to an extent. Remember McDavid got this team to camp 2 weeks early. He's tired of losing, the same old ups and downs of bad defensive, and really he and Drai have carried this team to any contention they've had.

Now he's sick of it, especially because he's clearly not 100%.

The Oil have 1.5 more years to show McDavid why he should re-sign in Edmonton because if he doesn't want to, you move him with 1 year left for a boatload of capital and hit the nuke button on the team.

Problem is this team is cap-strapped with many flaws that aren't easily fixable.

I listed what happened with the Leafs 1st and 2nd round draft picks. Go ahead, post the "assets" that Dubas has acquired that are with Leafs organization...its not an impressive list.

That's pretty cruel to say because the 2 1st round picks get acquired are Rodin Amirov and Easton Cowan.

McDavid's intentions are obviously in the right place but he also doesn't necessarily come across as the most mature leader either just because he looks so emotionally volatile out there. When it's harnessed properly, it's great. That's fire that can energize your team. We need more of that piss and vinegar attitude McDrai have on the Leafs...

But if times are tough and I were a benchwarmer Oiler, back up goalie, young defenseman, I don't think that kind of high stress captaincy is going to bring the best out of me. I'm probably going to grip my stick a little tighter, play a little bit nervous and try not to get in anyone's way when McDrai want to wind it up and go hero mode offensively. I'm probably going to be puck watching. I'm going to feel out of the play. I'm going to make some mistakes and I'm going to feel those eye rolls towards me.

I meant, list all assets that Dubas has acquired that is currently with the Leafs organization. Amirov is not part of the discussion, what happened to him is an absolute tragedy and speaking about him in hockey terms seems disrespectful to his life.

Dubas was the GM for 5 years, if you can't come up with a list of assets that is currently in the organization than you are proving my point.

Thinking of starting a poll on the main boards

What route do you think McDavid takes to Toronto?

Free Agency
Trade (who goes back)
3 way Deal

this is so true; the oilers were getting the kids gloves from the panel and the colour commentary. Pathetic.
Yeah but I bet the local media isn’t being so kind

Biggest issue with the Oilers is that they've dug into a spiral and aren't showing any signs of being able to pull themselves out.

McDavid's body language is a bad sign for this team. If he can't get it going himself to carry the team, or just doesn't have it in him this season, then they are done.

2 more weeks of losing and they won't be able to get back into the playoff picture.

I just watched the cap of Edmonton Carolina.

First goal: pinball.

Second goal: stupid drop pass by Ekholm, 2 on 1 with Skinner swimming like September Sammy, the only person who did something right was Bouchard but he just got sauced and 97 was on the ice but not in the frame.

Third goal: some truly excellent deep play leads to a turnover, our boy Ceci at the root of it.

Fourth goal: this one was bad, rush and a shot from the dot with both of them on.

Fif goal: both on the ice but you can see how collectively the team just leaves guys open. Necas and Svechnikov could have done a 500 piece puzzle with the time they had.

Shit goaltending? Yeah. No accountability from the big guys, okay yeah but…

It’s systemic, and awesome, we don’t play them til like January.

The commentating tonight was so disgustingly pro Oilers. 4-1 goal “momentum starting to turn towards Edmonton here.” They never got within more than 2 goals! On a national broadcast no less and Sportsnet has the audacity to have the game called by massive Oilers homers. Could only imagine the tantrum the rest of this country would have if Rogers had Bowen and Ralph calling a Leafs national game. Hell Bonesie and Jimmy would be more impartial.

They desperately wanted to convince the audience the game was still close so that people wouldn't turn it off lol.

They'll be 10 points out of a WC spot after tonight but only 4 points out of last spot in the entire league.
