If you do the same for defense it's a very, very, very, similar list of teams with Norris caliber defensemen.

So hard to believe Dubas couldn't see this for himself the entire time he was here.

I really hate the argument that when a goalie plays great and wins a game that its somehow not fair to the other team. "They were the better team except for the goalie".

If Florida has 2m invested in its starter and the other 8m sprinkled around the roster how much better would their skaters be? The goalie is part of the team and the salary cap structure of it. They made a decision to build that way and allocate those dollars to that position.

Two years ago Bobrovsky was looking like a buyout candidate. He had multiple bad years. The immortal Alex Lyon was starting games in the playoffs ahead of him at times. Spending a lot of money on goaltending doesn’t guarantee you get better performance by any means.

It appears that Dubas would rather have been wrong his way than right the conventional way.

He saw 4 forwards and that was it.
He was obsessed trying to prove his we can and we will right.
8 years later there are those that still want to run it back.

Gibson was drafted in 2011.

Reliable goaltending is quite unpredictable. It's great to build out from the net in theory, but practically speaking it's also the biggest risk in dollars.

He saw Pitts win with a nothing defence and thought to himself, I can do that too. Little did he realize that they are the exception, and not the rule.

Except many of the cup winners have been ok

Hill. Murray x2, Binnington. Kuemper. Have been 5 of the last 7 right?

They aren’t anything special.
Holtby is debatable. I can hear arguments he is Elite. But it’s vasi/holtby and junk from
2016-2023

You are correct.

I meant Giguere (even though he didn't win a Vezina - I just checked). Got Gibson on the brain. Kinda hoping the Leafs trade for him and one of Anaheim's young stud defensemen.

Being as Leafs and Ducks have a long trade history of trades just like that I tend to think a Marner to Anaheim trade is almost inevitable this summer.

Anybody still think you can win with shitty goaltending? It is the exception, not the rule folks and the Leafs West are proving it. They are bringing a butter knife to a gun fight. You know, like the Leafs East have been under Shanny (although Andersen looked capable under Lou until he'd give up a stinker in a critical moment).

Man I am seriously disappoint that both the NBA finals and NHL finals are over in 3. No more entertaining big games just formalities. There goes my betting season. Can't even look at the WNBA where -400 favorites get blown out by 2-10 teams lmao what a joke still.

Strong goaltending is key, always has been. What I find amusing is the Oilers signed a $5M one round playoff performer who has yet to see any action.:sarcasm:

See this is where the Dubas fanboys really begin to contradict themselves.

So it's perfectly acceptable to pay 40-50% of the cap to 4 forwards, but it's also perfectly acceptable to excuse them losing the playoffs cause they get "goalie'd". All while simultaneously justifying the Leafs paying among the least amount of cap to the goalie position, saying that's perfectly ok because goaltending is just "voodoo".

LOL at Edmonton, I think this is their peak. Reminds of when the Flyers made the finals in 97 and got smoked by the far superior Wings. And never hit that level again. Edmonton has A LOT of problems and are fortunate they are in the weaker Western Conference.

The Panthers are just way better up and down their lineup. 5 on 5, Florida's clearly better. Edmonton's staying in games through being powerplay merchants.

I remember when Campbell was signed and everyone on the TSN panel was screaming "Finally The Edmonton Oilers have stabilized their goaltender situation. " It was a half shot at the leafs too.

Their goalie situation is a bloody mess.

Florida's just a well balanced team, with size, skill, good forwards, good defense and excellent goaltending. Its not shocking they are here. I think losing last year too, helped them a lot.

Also, the thoroughbreds in Florida are just eating Hyman alive right now. He's completely outmatched.

Imagine thinking a Dubas goalie was your goaltending solution. Holland and Tre learning the hard way.
