If mcdavid was on this team we wouldnt give two craps about a guy like Matthews

Look at their career ppg, major trophies, NHL all teams, play off ppgs etc

Matthews is overrated greatly by this fanbase because we have the worst history of any of the original 6 with no top 30 players to ever play majority of their career for us all time

Matthews tier players come and go.

Mackinnon/Draisaitl/Kucherov/Pastranaare all same tier (all of those guys besides draisaitl are having better years than matthews this year and they were all better in 2023 but Matthews waa better than them all in 2022)

Mcdavid is a once in 30-40 years type player

Heres hoping he joins the leafs and can get the cup with us

lmao how about he first win a cup in edmonton before proclaiming him some automatic cup winner, maybe he'll win 1 once in this 30-40 years...

Guys pacing for being amongst the greatest goal scorers ever come and go eh? Yeah our fanbase truly does deserve the years when Kessel was our best player, it seems many have forgotten that.

I dunno. I'd say Matthews is closer to McDavid than Kadri is to Matthews. McDavid is the best player in the world there's no disputing that. However Matthews is the best goal scorer in the world you can't take that away from him.

They are all very different players. I don't think it's offensive to Matthews to say that McDavid is the best player in the league. There is no rational person who would say otherwise. That doesn't take anything away from how good Matthews is - it just recognizes the reality of the situation.
 
There are nuances in this argument. Best player vs. most talent. Clearly, McDavid is the most offensively talented hockey player in the world. Clearly Matthews is the best shooter in the world right now. Who is the best player in the world? At this point, neither McDavid nor Matthews have won anything.... I get that this is a team game, but to me, the best player has to also achieve something... I mean McDavid has won more than Matthews there too, but then does a guy like Makar enter the equation at some point? Norris winner, Conn Smythe winner, Cup winner...

It's premature for Makar type talk... but what if in he wins another two cups, and is Conn Smythe, Norris winner again.... ??

In his era, clearly Crosby was the best player. He had the most talent, and won things.. cups, Olympics... he was a winner....

So... best player vs. talent.... and overall talent, including defensively....

Dubas went from a good team to a bad team, can’t wait to see the dumb moves he makes to try and fix that team, if I was Sid I’d ask for a trade……….

Caught the end of that game live. After the Sens winning goal they showed Dubas and Spezza in their box... Dubas looked like he was about to puke and Spezza pass out. They kinda looked at each other and walked towards the door. Chefs kiss to that moment, glad I caught it.

Looking over the standings in the East we could be in for an incredible 1st round. If NYI, currently 2 points back, can pull ahead of Tampa we could easily have...

NYI vs NYR
T.B vs Florida
Toronto vs Boston
Philly vs Carolina

Admittedly the Canes/Flyers isn't particularly enticing with the coaches possibly the headliners but the other 3 are as good as it gets.

Too bad you didn't tune in few minutes earlier as Pens tied the game to send it to OT with the goalie out and they showed Dubas and Spezza and they were chest bumping like they had just won the Stanley Cup only to then show them again as you posted a few minutes later after Sens scored in OT.

The Pens now have dropped into the bottom 10 teams overall with the loss which was their 7th in the last 8 games and Pens management is still over-acting ridiculously hanging on every goal.

Dubas hired with the mandate to give Sid and Geno a last hurrah run at a Cup and he has put them in a situation where when they interview Crosby he is not certain of this own Pens future and might have to move on to gain success as his career ends.

Gonna throw it out there.

If Sid doesn't want to leave the Pens for a Cup chase, and doesn't want to stay for a rebuild, is there a chance he retires after next season?

I don't think he personally will, but just throwing it out there.

He will be 37 after the last year on his contract is over next year. He will be 38 after that on a new contract for 2025-26.
