Gonna throw it out there.

If Sid doesn't want to leave the Pens for a Cup chase, and doesn't want to stay for a rebuild, is there a chance he retires after next season?

I don't think he personally will, but just throwing it out there.

He will be 37 after the last year on his contract is over next year. He will be 38 after that on a new contract for 2025-26.

He wants one more Olympics

If the guy who predicted Dubas would win 3 Cups in 5 years if he went to Pittsburgh, we are going to be eating plenty of crow the next 4 seasons. LOL.

Good point.

I don't see him leaving the Pens so he will have to stay there as a mentor for the younger players. Plus he also vouched for Letang and Makin to return and word is that they also wanted Sullivan as coach.
From the small sample size I have seen of Letang this year, he has gone over the same cliff that TJ Brodie has.

Crosby has 0 points and 2 assists in his last 8 games with a -12.

He has 1 goal in his last 12.

Malkin has 4 goals in his last 30 games
Sid had an amazing start to the year.. carrying this team on his back, I think at this age, he just can't do that for the whole season. Malkin is all but done as a player. Crosby still has game, but he needs to be a secondary option, second line guy now. With no supporting cast, that's not going to happen... and like @ToneDog has suggested Letang has fallen off the cliff now too. Letang and Malkin both need to retire, but they are both 35+ contracts, so that wouldn't even help them... maybe LTIR them at some point? It really is time to blow things up in Pittsburgh, and sell what they can.

There is also a lot of speculation out there that Rutherford was looking to trade Letang and ownership stepped in. That’s what led to him leaving Pittsburgh. There is also similar speculation that Hextall and Burke wanted to do the same last season with Letang and Malkin.

Looks like FSG ownership is calling the shots and they also love and support Sullivan too. He has a 3 year extension that kicks in next season too.:laugh:

When ownership is so in control that’s the worst. Good luck, Pittsburgh fans. At least they saw 3 championships the past 15 years.

Sounds like Pens ownership were looking for a POHO they could control. Can't blame Dubas for taking the job. Worst case he gets canned but he can say he was POHO and get a similar job.

Five years of Dubas in charge is more than enough. I can't imagine having to go through 7 years.

wouldn't that throw a wrench in boy wonder's plans...........

apt considering lambourghini's SUVs suck.

Guess what else is important in hockey..200 foot hockey. Matthews is a unicorn he's a selke level forward who wins rocket trophies. I know you hate that the leafs have a superstar C but at least try here. "he's only good at scoring goals!"
how would you know whether a Lambourghini's SUV sucks? What sucks is you trying to say Mathews is better than McDavid. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE with any hockey knowledge would take Mathews over McDavid, maybe stick to basketball..............
