Reasoning is suspect, however it is within his rights to do so.

Once he signs his first contract he loses all those rights until he's played enough to be UFA.

He was under no obligation to sign anywhere, but like every other pick, he's just another asset for the team to do what they want.

It's too bad, because Philadelphia's new management team has otherwise done a very nice (early) job of turning that team around. As others have said, I think the league is better when the Flyers are a good team.
