Things could get interesting in Pittsburgh in the offseason.

2nd straight year missing the playoffs. No chance at contending anytime soon. Crosby with one more year on his contract.

Crosby is going to go down as one of the most underpaid players in NHL history due to his own superstition.
Gordie Howe, see the movie "Net Worth (1995)". He was severely underpaid (willing) and kept wages depressed for all other players.

What would the superstition be? The cap hit the same as his jersey number? I've never heard that before.

These super long term contracts are a double edged sword. They can be really bad for a team, but sometimes they can be great for a team.

Carter was probably pretty underpaid also.

Yeah, Crosby wanted to sign for $8.7m, his birth year and jersey number.

Yeah those old cap circumventing deals were a double edged sword, risky for both sides. Look at a guy like Richards though, had he signed a 6 year deal instead of a 12 year one he would have probably made a million more a year but would have made a ton less overall because nobody would have touched him after 6 years. It's definitely insurance for situations like that, guys just have their careers totally collapse or get injured after being stars in their prime.

fired a jack adams nominee months after extending him? i've been told that can't happen!

Did we just get another coach fired?

Things were trending that way unfortunately. Can't fire all of the players, so Lindy gets the axe.

Wonder if Luke Hughes is hitting the wall a bit in his first pro season. He played 41/39 games in his two seasons in college. +/- isn't the greatest stat, but in Hughes' case it seems to match the eye test.

First 40 GP: 23 points, -4
Last 20 GP: 8 points, -17

PP has been ice cold for over a month and they haven't made any adjustments.

Out of curiosity I looked it up, the NHL record number for coaches fired in a single season is several ties at 9. With Ruff getting canned, we're currently at 7 with a lot of season still left to play. CAN WE BEAT THE RECORD???
