Not really.Tanev deal just crushed any chance of LA getting a 1st for Roy....
Roy is younger and better than Tanev. He could probably get a 1st +

Younger yes....better...debatableNot really.

Never knew this was a pen:
Would you rather have Roy or Tanev in your lineup? Tanev is a good defensive d-man but he is over hyped because he plays north of the border.Tanev deal just crushed any chance of LA getting a 1st for Roy....

I've always wanted to see two goalies skate to and straddle the red line, and throw punches just to see how it would be ruled. See if it turns into a wrestling match trying force your opponent over the red line. You’re aging yourself (maybe). Basically they can only leave the ice if they cross the red line and cannot get involved. It’s the same premise if they cross it to get in fight (although worded differently). The fighting one is a penalty anyone over 40 has seen many times
he is the matt greene/Rob Scuderi type that LA is missing. In this lineup? Tanev, 100% of the time.

Tanev is not a #2. Neither is Roy.Tanev is a proper and proven #2 dman. I'm not convinced Roy would hold that down in similar manner.
Helenius is having a great year - he has 8 goals in 44 games. He plays a key role in the penalty kill - basically went from the 4th line center to the 3rd line center.
He's tough and nasty - pushes other teams players after face offs and is always yapping. He def plays tougher when Doty and Hodgson are in the line-up so he has some back up. I heard he spent this past summer training with Jeremy Clarke - who is a Kings scout, who owns an MMA gym in Minnesota - players like Nick Seeler also train there.
Helenius had a few good fights this year and already looks way better than he did last year. Stoll is a big fan of his, if you listen to interviews. 4 fights this year and 7 last year.
Likely, he will be a King in the 2025-6 season and possibly get a look next season - 2024-5.
Samuel once mentioned Brian Boyle as someone he patterned his game after, but he's way nastier and meaner and Boyle could barely fight. I would say he's a cross between Boyle and his own father (a D man), Sami.
He just turned 21, so he's really young still.
Stankoven looks like another homerun pick for Dallas, was dominant in the AHL as a 20 year old first-year pro and looking the part in the NHL so far. He looked like an NHL scoring line player when I saw him play a couple of weeks ago in the AHL. Imagine Blake Lizotte's gritty style with Mike Cammalleri's shot and scoring instincts.
Dallas scouts deserve a lot of credit, check out this drafting since 2017
Heiskanen - #3 OA
Oettinger - #26 OA
Robertson - #39 OA
Harley - #18 OA
Johnston - #23 OA
Stankoven - #47 OA
Very impressive results for a team with only one high pick, that has been competitive (6 playoff series wins in last 5 seasons) while turning ownership over to younger players.

brutal.Apparently Philly's scouts wanted Heiskanen at #2 but Hextall overruled them for Nolan Patrick.
brutal.
I'll admit that I wanted the Devils to take Patrick #1 that year.
My fun split room "what if" is San Jose in 1993. Their owner fired GM Jack Ferreira after their first year. Instead of appointing a replacement, they set up a co-GM setup between Dean Lombardi, Chuck Grillo, and George Kingston.
Sharks had the #2 pick after being out tanked by Ottawa. Some scouts wanted Chris Pronger. Other scouts wanted Paul Kariya. But Grillo was adamant that they take Viktor Kozlov.
Bonus "what if": Quebec was hosting that draft and really wanted Pronger to go with Sakic/Sundin/Forsberg/Nolan/etc. They offered something centered around Mike Ricci and #10, but the pick was too late to guarantee Kozlov, so San Jose turned it down. Quebec tried to get #3 from Tampa and then would have flipped spots with San Jose but that didn't work.
At some point Quebec's owner tried to negotiate directly with San Jose's owner which infuriated Dean Lombardi. We were only a year removed from Quebec trading Eric Lindros twice, so they didn't have the best reputation.
Just as the draft is about to begin, Quebec makes a bombshell offer: The rights to Peter Forsberg straight up for the #2 pick.
After the draft, Lombardi vented to the press about how he would have done that deal contingent on signing Forsberg. Problem was that the 1988-94 CBA permitted unsigned European draft picks to sign offer sheets after a certain amount of time. In the summer of 1992, Teemu Selanne signed one with Calgary (included a 1.5 mil signing bonus) that Winnipeg begrudgingly matched. The rumor was that Forsberg might get a 4-5 mil signing bonus.
Since Quebec waited until the last minute, Lombardi had no time to contact Forsberg's agent.
Lombardi couldn't take the chance on having to match a bloated offer sheet, so he traded down with Hartford and got Kozlov at #6. Dean got full autonomy in 1996 and traded Kozlov while he still had value in 1997. But interesting to know that the Sharks could have walked out of that draft with Pronger/Kariya/Forsberg but ended up with Kozlov.
