Even with bad trades, you can see the logic or reasons that a GM made it. This one (MacEwen) though was truly bizarre. Even the biggest Blake supporters have to admit this one made zero sense and was crap from the beginning. ok you want to get rid of Lem and have him off the team for whatever reasons. But taking back a guy whose only game is tough guy/ fighting -- yet he has a totally jacked up jaw and can't take a punch. And we give up a pick to boot. Strange. Blake must have wiped out on a big wave that morning and hit his head on his board.

Zadina is horrible, a perfect example of it not taking forever to realize when you just had a massive whiff on a pick. I am not surprised that nobody has interest.

I know plenty of Wings fans, and I don’t know a single one who was happy with that pick at the time it was made. The fans wanted Hughes, and the fans knew better than the GM. And that one stings too, Hughes and Seider would have been a dominant D pair for a long time. No idea how anyone passes on Hughes there, not only was he basically bust proof with his skating and IQ, he also had a huge ceiling (which he has shown in the NHL).

This is a pretty good read. Just shows how hard it is to make the proper pick.

I am usually the last person to complain about player salaries. I don't have a problem with the $10m a year player at all, but these bums who make $700-800k is just incredible to me.

They should have taken Hughes, it should have been a slam dunk. He was playing less than an hour away so they had the luxury to have seen him play more than anyone else. His dad worked in pro hockey and he knew the culture aspect of it and he had a skillset that easily translated to the NHL. No way should Hughes have ever fallen to wear he did, and to get passed on by the home team was ridiculous.

I would love to see where the Kings had Moritz Seider. From the draft video, it seems the wanted Byram, once he was gone, they took Turcotte.

I have zero idea while we bothered kicking the tires on a goon with zero goon ability due to his injuries.did we want Bitey Lemieux gone that bad?

I think many here guessed that he did Lemieux a favor by trying to send him to a team that would value him and actually give him a consistent roster spot. I agree on all accounts on MacEwen though.

They did put Quick's name on it. Don't they usually engrave right before the season starts?

As far as I know, after the initial parties, the Cup gets taken to a jeweler in Montreal(I think), that has been doing the engraving forever. They engrave the Cup and then its available for the players days with the cup.

Kubalik on the move again... where's ANDYS when you need him!?

Fiala trade is a direct comparison, Blake did well with that one, better player, twice the term and cost less in assets
Better player and more term. But cost more in assets. Kubalik is scoring depth that can add 20 goals and 40-45 points but he's also potentially a 1 year asset. The D prospect given up just played a significant portion of the season in the ECHL. Not a chance Minnesota would give up Faber for Kubalik, Sebrango, and a 4th rounder. The first round pick is likely to be later than the one the Kings gave up as well.

Also arguable as far as a better player. As both are scoring wingers, DeBrincat actually has a better career scoring rate than Fiala and has been more consistent.
