The Ducks Have a New Coach

I do admire how they're flat-out emphasizing the "teaching" factor. Obviously, they need a few of their Grade-A prospects to hit; but, if they do, and then they add a few good supplement pieces, they should be pretty formidable in 3-4 years (I wonder if Gibson would enjoy something of a late-career rebound if he's still around for that).

Since he was one of the first, nobody could recognized this management group's pattern of introducing offensively talented players (who actually think offense-first) into the league as misplaced bottom 6ers. Obviously Amadio's not the greatest of players, but he got the exact same treatment as Kaliyev is getting now.

The thing that rarely gets discussed is the ramifications of having the wrong players on the 4th line. Having actual, honest to god veteran role players in those spots never gets the appreciation it deserves. The Kings 4th line of loose change skilled players gets caved in during the playoffs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Lizzo stole his spot from what I remember. Amadio sucked as a King and did nothing here. Then did the same in OTT and then the same with the Leafs and was waived. He found a nice niche spot in Vegas and by some miracle, has done his part there, but still not as good as Lizzo. 18 points in 22' and 27 this year. The only thing he has over Lizzo is his height at 6-1". This is like the Brian Boyle thing all over again from 2014. Ex King bounced around has a good playoff and it's " we gave up on him too soon" blah blah blah. Amadio is a dime a dozen 4th line player who has 4 goals and 5 assist in the playoffs this year, riding on the back of a good Vegas team, nothing more.

If it were JUST Amadio rather than a long series of players, sure.

He's an example, not the golden cow.

Moulson and Boyle I sure thought LA has a bright future with them

Moulson and Boyle I sure thought LA has a bright future with them

Boyle thought he had his spot on lock down and had one of the worst camps I could remember. Slowest guy on the ice shift after shift, and everyone watching was like "we waited 4 years for that?".

Which begs the question why do guys feel like they can dog it here and then fight for their career elsewhere?

This organization is rotting head to toe right now.

Thats a good question. Torts saved Boyles career, at least thats what he said in an interview I read about him.
Not directly. Torts basically told him to get his shit together or he wasn't playing. So he went out of his way to hire a pro ice skater to help him improve his skating and it worked.

I never understood why DL traded Boyle.

He looked decent when he was called up the NHL.

Yeah Boyle hired a high end power skating coach when he got to NYC.

So again it begs the question why are guys so much more comfortable dogging it here than elsewhere?

the two years is what gets me

If I could give that guy a monthly contract I would

Dude is gonna have a dog shit year this year, then get traded at the 2025 deadline for a good pick

that's WILD overpayment

like i get that they need to hit the cap floor and probably will next season too but goddamn you could get more value out of 2 or 3 players costing half or 1/3 the price

Said it on the main board, but if you're AA you've gotta be stoked right now.

8.5M in the bag, and zero pressure to perform.

He gets to go out there night after night and mess around. No backchecking. Try out his stupid 1-on-1 moves. Pond hockey. Sounds like fun.

Year two of the deal comes with a 2M bonus. Nice.

Did not see Ol' Eyebrows getting that massive $4.25/year contract. o_O

This screams we could have ditched Petersen + Walker to Chi town for much less.

I mean, it kind of makes sense when it's their first stop. Us trading or waiving or not signing them is probably the wake up call.

We benefited from that with Muzzin, Keumper, Jones, Copley, Moore, Durzi, Campbell, and the list goes on.

If you're Florida, you're probably not going back the the SC finals for another 20+ years after this.

So this is your big opportunity. You can't go down 3-0.

A lot hinges on this game tonight.
