I don't know why outlets ever bother to publish these bites (well, I do know...)
What do you ever expect the new guy in town to say?
"Yeah, it's alright, but I really liked my old place better."
imagine thinking Pittsburgh is better than Toronto as a city... but I guess it reminds him of his old home up in Salt Ste. Marie

Timo at 8.5 is a great deal for the Devils
Great player great value. A 40 goal scorer
Everyone keeps saying playoff stats and delivering in the playoffs is what matters most when talking about Salaries on this forum so it seems like the devils gave Meier an UNPRECEDENTED overpay for his 0.5 PPG in the playoffs

He had 15 points in 20 games when sharks went to the finals. I guess that counts for something

Of course he would because whoever he has projected to go 14th will still be there at 28 for him to pick.
That seemed to always be the case here.
I've been hearing that for like the last 30 years here.

"We were shocked he was still there. We had him 15 spots higher."

It even extended into free agents.

"Damn, when Jeff Finger wasn't snapped up we made sure we got him by offering way more money than he or his agent expected!"

Meh, he was on a new team. I'd take the body of work from past years. A full offseason/training camp with the team and he's probably going to be just as good as he was in San Jose, if not better due to more talent around him.

you mean in SJ when he had 20 points in 30 games so slightly better 0.66 PPG lol

Tkachuk was 0.56 PPG in the playoffs in Calgary and then went over PPG on a long run in Florida, one key difference being he had an entire season to gel with the Panthers before the playoffs. My point was just that I wouldn't put a ton of stock in a limited sample size of Meier with the Devils. He's still a very good player.

lol, dunno if he really said that

Apparently he did. Here is the full quote:

“I think the thing that’s really impressed me has just been the quality of the people here and … how comfortable it’s been in the city already, not just for me, but for my family,” Dubas said during a press conference at the team’s facility in Cranberry on Friday. “I’m from Sault Ste. Marie. Toronto, the city is much larger. It’s a great city, but here it just feels a little bit more like home and what it was like growing up.”

what are you talking about, he hasnt signed?

8.5 is what he can get as a worse case scenario if he loses arbitration
he's an up and down player who scored a lot last year, and did nothing else.

How many years until the following teams pass us in the standings:

Buffalo - 1 or 2
Ottawa - 1 or fewer
Montreal - 3 - 4 as of now

We have real threats in Buffalo and Ottawa imo. I could see them both being very close or even better than us this coming season. We need to hope we can leapfrog Tampa, Florida and Boston if we want to lock in a non-WC playoff spot imo.

Gotta enjoy these winning seasons while we can because our rivals are flush with affordable talent and picks.

Are you assuming decline from the core of the team?

Bad decision on GM?

Mintten might be fine but last year is was so especially egregious the dude was ranked like 80th at the highest and they tried to sell that he was who they were going to pick in the first

I realize what you're saying, but ... 28th. ranked on Central Scouting.
Leafs haven't had a great pick (as in top 15) for years.
Trading back from 28th. to get a couple picks between 40 and 60 probably lands about the same talent and potential.

Suggesting Minten is a top selection of course is a huge stretch.
