Fair point, we don't know who they would have drafted. You could see how if they had a first round pick in 2021 they would have taken Knies there.

Info believe that 2021 was the best year to go all in at the TDL and shit the bed. That draft was a Covid crapshoot.

No. I disagree. We don't know who they were going to pick in the first round. That's my point. It's great that TOR has Knies, but you can't claim to be part of those meetings with scouts, etc.

This doesn't sound legit. Why would players be around his office two weeks before camp?

I’m not a Dubas guy and I agree with the criticisms but also do think that the depth of the franchise would have looked a lot different if it wasn’t for the Amirov tragedy. I hesitate to talk about hockey side since that’s a real life situation. But slot in a young player like Dawson Mercer or a Ridley Greig or whatever at the start of their career and our whole forward situation feels a lot different.

I wouldn't put anything past him, he's such an ass but this seems kind of dumb. He's an ass but he's not stupid.

I imagine any player is just going to tell him to F off.

Dave was more sarcastic but I don’t find it all that unbelievable that the captain and new head coach would get together before training camp to discuss the upcoming season. Guys in Colorado, Boston, Seattle, and Chicago are all grouped up and skating ahead of time. Can imagine the same happening in Columbus and Babcock requesting to speak to Jenner.

Yeah sure he could meet with the Captain but it sounds like there were many subjected to this.
Every player in the league would be skating but I don't think they can force guys to the rink before camp.

I'm just not clear on why he'd do that, as in, what's the motivation? Does he think it's the modern equivalent of whipping out your wallet and showing pictures of your dog and your family? I must be missing something.

I actually have a hard time believing Babcock actually did that. I'm not buying it.

I'll be shocked if it is indeed true. Shocked in the sense that he didn't learn anything (not that I thought the Marner thing was egregious or anything) and can't believe he is that stupid to do something like that in 2023.

Seems like he just wants to see what his captain is like and make sure he wasnt up to anything sus during the summer. But just like when he was here in Toronto, he went about it in an extremely poor way, and if its all true, showing that he hasnt really learned anything. Also it can be seen as a power move, asserting dominance etc.

If you wanna find out what type of dude your captain is, why don't you just talk to him and talk to others?

Nobody, especially your boss, should be requesting your personal phone so they can go look through your photos.

You'd think Babs would have been a bit more sensitive to this sort of stuff given what happened after he got canned in Toronto. Perhaps he figured that Columbus was a market which wouldn't draw scrutiny. Or maybe he just was unaware at how negatively players would react...

The more that seems to be coming out about this latest stuff the worse it looks for him

I believe this, I don't think he'd make the same mistakes twice. I def think Babcock is gonna have an uphill battle though. Seems like some players are already planning how they are gonna get him fired. Wouldn't be surprised if someone from the lockerrom put it out.
