No. I disagree. We don't know who they were going to pick in the first round. That's my point. It's great that TOR has Knies, but you can't claim to be part of those meetings with scouts, etc.

I am not sure how I said anything there you could disagree with. I didn't say anything definitive. I said we don't know who they would have drafted with any of those picks and that you could see how they might have picked Knies in the first round, that also suggested you could see how they would not have done that. What are you disagreeing with exactly?

He also said that there was no issue if they didn't want to show. Not a Babcock supporter but the witch hunt now that he's returned being done by Spittin Chicklets is dumb. A player most likely didn’t like it and went crying to Biz. Probably a player that has nothing to lose because he's falling out of favor in CBus. Anonymity is terrific when you don't have to be accountable to anybody. Going to Barstool is certainly a move though....

A team that gets Marner of an offersheet is probably not picking in the top 16 at any point in the 4 years.

What are the odds you can get a player as good as Marner in the back half of the 1st, even if you got 4 shots at it. And the Leafs are still good enough without him that they themselves won't be a high end lottery team so getting a top 5 is unrealistic, unless you're trading 3+ firsts just to move up. like 10 - 15 spots.

Offersheets at the highest level should focus on quality not quantity. And since that is basically impossible I honestly think that offer sheets should not be allowed above a certain $$ level, like 7m.

This is a bit beyond the point. A poster blamed Matthews grees for the leafs cap situation. Matthews didn't use the RFA period as leverage. If he did, he would've been paid way more.

Tavares definitely took a pay cut to come to Toronto.

Marner was the only player (except Nylander) to use the RFA period as leverage. And he made a spectacle of it.

His agent said he wanted to be like his teammates, not like other NHL comparables. However, at that time he wasn't worth the same money on shorter term than 28 year old, center, former captain, prolific goal scorer, former 1st overall pick, and two time hart finalist Tavares.

And at that time he wasn't worth the same as Matthews, who was on his second ppg season, had a calder, played center, prolific goal scorer, 1st overall pick and was pacing Marner in 2019 but while playing with 3rd line players Johnsson, Kapanen and Marleau, while Marner was with Tavares and Hyman.

The only overpaid player was Marner and his negotiations were a distraction.
