No interest in Subban?

I'm sure Devils may eat up some of his salary

He does suck but at least he can man the PP with right handed hard shot

His cap hit is $9 mil. There is no way to make that work, unless NJD takes 50%, traded to team B who take 50%, and we send Holl..... NJD needs a RHD to replace him...

If Subban is of any interest to the Leafs, and Subban has interest in the Leafs, it's as a UFA after this year, or a deadline deal... frankly, I wouldn't spend the assets at the deadline to obtain him.

I'd still rather have Brodie/Holl/Liljegren even if double retention is in play.

The only way it could work is if Liljegren takes Holl's spot in the top 4, we move Holl for assets, and Subban signs a cheap 1 year deal to play with his buddy JT. Even then why not just keep Holl?

or we add Kerfoot and they add back a prospect or a pick.

Subtracting Kerfoot and Holl, to add Subban, is a net negative to this team. Even with a bunch of hoops jumped through, the cap is still a problem.

But, just for giggles, this is how we could potentially make this work...

Sign Bozak for less than a mil.

Kerfoot and Holl to New Jersey.
A second from NJ to Arizona to take half of the cap hits.
Andreas Johnsson at $950 k and Subban at $2.25 mil to the Leafs.

I'm not sure if we are better... or just deck chairs shuffled... But Bozak as 3C, and if Johnsson could regain form here. (not sure about his knees)

The best D pairings would then be...

Mo Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren/Dermott
Sandin PK

Again, I'm not sure about this, but it's movement.

As much as I hate Gudbranson, you'd be better off adding him and Bozak near league minimum with your last two contract slots than giving up tangible assets in a Subban trade. Especially Kerfoot and Holl.

I'd rather Gudbranson than Subban though ...monster size, and actual toughness and a defense only d-man, something we still lack.
but, i'd like to see Lil get a shot as the #6D as he should be able to handle the defensive part of the game better than Sandin

Ideally Liljegren takes advantage of the opportunity and pushes his way into the top 4 by the end of the year with his play. Then if you want a meat head in one of your bottom pairing slots you can move Holl for assets and give Liljegren an extension at Holl money for a few years.

Given the NCAA new rules regarding sponsorship.

i would be looking at

Scotia bank
The rom
Ripleys

to be signing power to 3 year sponsorships. Walk him right to ufa.

I wonder how many people they offered the job to before they started bottom feeding to find someone who’d work cheap enough and and accept working for the Yotes , lol .

good luck to Mr “I can neither confirm or deny”

Well, there went their chance of winning the Cup!
Is he really that bad? He's in an assistant GM capacity and has had several years to learn from his mistakes in his tenure in Toronto. Has done great as a scout and put together strong AHL teams for providence.

Wasn't a Leafs fan when he was our GM, am aware that he wanted to try to rebuild after the lockout but meddling ownership denied which prompted him to make a series of terrible win now moves including the Tuuka Rask trade

He's older, experienced and has some proven strengths and track record now. For where the yotes are(have gone nuclear and sold basically every compete now piece outside of Keller, chychuran and schmaltz) he could do well in this role with low expectations and pressure

He seemed to be out of his depth when he was GM here, and I don't think it was all "meddling owners".

But it was a tongue-in-cheek comment. I haven't followed his career much, and he could be an excellent assistant GM for them.

Every GM goes through a rough patch have had made trades that will baffle you. Even Bowman didn't get every call right
But that thing is, that was 15 years ago. He has good contacts, he's well liked in the industry and comes from a very highly regarded family

He wasn't a bad GM as people think he was. I mean he drafted few players that went to be all stars and still playing in this league
Few were 30 goals scorers

If Arizona can draft lets say Rask, Reimer, Kulemin, Komarov, Stalberg, Gunnerson. They'll be happy to have those players

Some leafs fans really have this thing against him. If you had a boss like Peddie and a coworker like Quinn, you would have cried
