Interesting....Evidently U-13AAA (his son's team) is the highest level of hockey he has coached.

I think this was a smart move by MTL. The season is over for them. It doesn't really matter what record he has with the team the rest of the season. The GM was hired midseason so he can't really do anything to make them his team until the offseason. St. Louis will probably be given a front office after the season is over. MTL gets their new HC and staff in the offseason.

It's what the Brewers did with Councel a few years ago. He was being groomed to be a high ranking front office guy. He was put in as interm to just finish out the season so they could do a real coaching search and move him back into the front office. He just turned out to be a really good HC and threw a wrench (in a good way) into their original plans.

So the teams from the Canada Div from last year are having it rough. 5 of the 7 teams either have fired their HC, GM, or both since the season started last year.

Sean Monahan has 19 pts. in 44gp
Kaprizov has 54 pts. in 42 gp

They are tied in PP pts. with 12.

And? That isn't bad at all for a guy that may or may push Minnesota over the edge of being playoff pretenders vs playoff contenders? We have a ton of guys like Dewar, we can move one of our defensemen to their off-hand...and then a low 1st, low 3rd and a 5th? Meh.

If that trade doesn't work out it makes the Hanzel rental trade look decent by comparison. I don't see the team as being a Giroux away from being contender.

I'd rather send something similar to AZ for Chycrun.

You're comparing Hanzal to Giroux?

Edit: Just saw it was a 1st and a 5th, so 1st, Addison, Dewar and a 5th for Giroux?

If the team gets bounced early in the Playoffs then yes. A Giroux trade ends up in the same category as the Hanzel trade.

id like giroux on this team more than most, but a 1st 5th addison and dewar is a helluva overpayment

There is no blue chip prospect, Addison is probably the most valuable out of all those pieces. A late 1st (which I've been told isn't very valuable), a fourth liner and a late 5th? For Giroux? I'd do it in a heartbeat. Addison is the only thing given up and the Wild are flushed with defensemen.

What are you expecting a 2nd and Rask?

thats too much for a rental. would i do a 1st and a b prospect? yes. But youre trading our most nhl ready defensive prospect, a young nhl playing 4th liner (which we will need the next 3 years) and adding a 1st and 5th. Thats overkill
