MacK getting hurt while fighting Dumba over a clean hit on Rantanen is just delicious. Avs fans deserve this lol
“And the league does a very good job; you can’t just put somebody on LTI and add to your cap without the league going through that with a fine-tooth comb. There’s been legitimate injuries. The way the system’s set up, you can do certain things. I don’t necessary look at it as abusive. Are there areas that need to be tightened up? Maybe. But the sentiment in the room there wasn’t that it’s fundamentally broken.”
And it’s not as if they—or any other team—are lying about the injuries.
“It’s no secret that around every trade deadline we reach out to the clubs and understand their injury situation and get a sense of projected dates of return,” deputy commissioner Bill Daly said on Tuesday. “And whenever the projected date of return and LTIR is being used and the projected date of return is around the playoffs, we look into it. We deal with the clubs, we get their medical records, we employ an independent medical expert and we make sure the (details are accurate regarding) the injury. We’ve never had any issues that stemmed from that. But it’s a thorough process.”
So is their goaltending... so is their offense... is there anything they're actually good at?Ugh. Good lord is Detroit's defense hot garbage.
BTW - as expected...
NHL, GMs not eager to close LTIR 'loophole' despite perceived abuses
The number of teams in LTIR that are doing well in the standings explains why the majority of the league’s GMs aren't eager to close the loophole that enables them to exceed the salary cap.www.sportsnet.ca
Issue got tabled pretty quickly. It's not this big issue to the league as it appears to be by conspiracy chasing fans.

They say it works as intended. If it works as intended, it's not a loophole that needs closing. Then closing it should be equally not a big deal.

Well, they've been consistently been saying it since 2015 when it was first brought up as a conspiracy with Patrick Kane. They've said it several times since. Only the fans make an issue out of it is my point. The league, who looks at these very carfully sees nothing wrong happening that they didn't intend to happen. As long as “they say” then.

The system isn't broken, there isn't a loophole in the league's eyes, only the fans who think these injuries aren't real in the first place. They're real. No conspiracy going on.
Tell that to the league who said it then. The same league that made the rule and confirms it's working as they designed and they confirm with an independent medical professional on the injury details for each injured player etc.Sounds like something that a conspirator would say.

You see a problem with their system, they do not. It's their system, their rules, they get what they want no matter what fans without the behind the scenes details think.
These same fans are why we have a lame convoluted draft lottery that was never needed in the first place too.
The day the league actually takes player safety seriously, it might not... but as long as people like Parros run it? Player safety is just a buzz term at best. Then I guess that the DoPS should never come up in conversation ever again, but we both know that it will.

One is specifically defined in the CBA down to all parameters of it's usage, was collectively bargained for by both the players and the league.Who do you think hired Parros, and what do you think the league would say if you asked them if the DoPS was “working as intended”?

The other is an arbitrary punishment system that is dealt with inconsistently.
They are not the same.
You misunderstood my post then...So… you don’t think that the ability to suspend players and take their money is in the CBA? I’d maybe take a read through it.

I specifically said one is in the CBA down to every single parameter of its usage. IE, if it is used, every single iota of it's usage ability is predefined in how it's used etc.
The punishment system has "guidelines" but has no parameters on what punishment is handed out when and why... only things like a maximum fine is $5k, an in person hearing is required if a suspension of 5 games or more seems likely etc.
The punishment that is decided upon? It's not in the CBA as predefined for each situation. If it was, it wouldn't be so damned inconsistent in the first place.
Sure... if you say so.This is a lot of words to say almost nothing.
Sure... if you say so.
I’d be interested in reading that section of the CBA, Is all I’m saying.
Conspiracies are things done in secret by certain groups. Fans have just been claiming teams are essentially allowed to cheat by using the LTIR as a cap displacement program. That's not a conspiracy theory, whether you think they're wrong or not. Everything's out in the open. If they were trying to somehow hide their salaries from public view, then maybe you can call it a conspiracy; but everyone can look up cap numbers at any time.Well, they've been consistently been saying it since 2015 when it was first brought up as a conspiracy with Patrick Kane. The league independently confirms the injuries and recovery times. They're not cheating. Medical records by law are not public record. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean a conspiracy is in the works.Conspiracies are things done in secret by certain groups. Finding something "annoying" =/= "cheating".It's that classic success story
Consumers: Hey, there's a kind of annoying issue with your product that makes it less enjoyable.
Business: It's fine.
Consumers: But like many of us find this to make it less fun overall.
Business: We held a meeting. It's fine.
