And that’s the rub of the CBA they signed. Owners be f***ed!

They agreed to a 20% escrow. If that doesn’t get them to the 50/50 split, tough shit. That signed the contract. That sword cuts both ways it seems.
The owners are never screwed. They figured out the magic bullet some time ago, and it is the lockout. The owners always have the ability to outlast the finite careers of players.

The owners aren't asking for reduction in pay this time, they are asking for greater deferments in salary payments to a later date.

It's unfortunate but we're going to be a black hole team. Maybe a Wild Card spot, but more likely just outside, as the Ducks and Sharks and Yotes are arguably a year or two behind our rebuilds. This is the year we would have to win a lottery because we're going to show some progress. I mean it would be nice to play against Van and Calgary instead of friggin Colorado and Dallas but ultimately it's not that much of a shakeup that it affects our finish.

Come on dooowwwwwn Owen Power/Brandt Clarke, finish our rebuild pls

I wonder if the league takes 4 teams from each division, no wild cards. Just a sweet 16, bracket style playoff format. I mean, by the time the regular season ends, every team will be absolutely sick of their division rivals, but it could still be some fun hockey to watch. I personally like the NCAA March Madness brackets when it comes to playoffs.

My shitty thoughts:
Colorado, Vegas and Dallas are gonna rek everyone.
Minny and AZ are kinda in transition and anything is possible.
I think we finish ahead of the Ducks and Sharks.

Highest possible finish in the division is probably 5th, 4th would be the work of the Baby Jesus.
Lowest possible is 7th, I think even if everything goes wrong, we still beat out the Sharks

Aww, man, and I was so looking forward to Detroit making us look good ...

;)

So you’re saying we need just 10 more wins to get in the playoffs.

That’s a really tall order. Allot of our “veteran” players would have to click and a couple kids would have to graduate.

Considering how the team finished....

I still expect ups and downs. The team was very streak both good and bad last year. That was partially due to youth and leaning a new system and having a new coach.

Considering the losing streaks the team had
3 in a row
4 in a row
3 in a row
4 in a row
3 in a row
3 in a row
5 in a row
and 5 in a row

10 more wins in an 82 game schedule seems somewhat possible in a truncated season, my doubts grow bigger as every game in shaved.
But that is why we play the games, right?

The key will be finding the right combination of kids to carry a legit 2nd line.

It won’t be easy cuz you can’t just dump a bunch of rookies there, despite the talent.

Also, lots hinges on how much of Carter we get this year. Old age and all, he still scores and we in dire need of that.

Indeed

Vilardi really helped there.

I did a search and found the GDT for game 11 and checked our lines
Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Carter Lizotte Toffoli
Clifford Kempe Wagner
Kovalchuk(LOL) Amadio Lewis

Game 66 which are the lines I remember at the end

Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Kempe Vilardi Frk
Moore Lizotte Wagner
Porkins Amadio Lewis

I think our second line is MUCH better than it was before the deadline/ Vilardi coming up.

Assuming Gabe stays healthy... the second line will really help. I don't know if Carter will take Frk of Kempe's spot but even slide to the 3rd line if KVF have some chemistry, but that is a good problem to have. I think this time off will help Carter more than most

If they do go with these divisions, I wouldn't count on the Kings making the playoffs.

It will be Canada's best chance to win a Stanley Cup in some time, since one of the Canadian teams will probably be guaranteed a spot in a Conference Final.

I also see another top 5 pick in the Kings future, so it's all good.

Yeah, it'll suck having to possibly care to some extent about results again. Although I don't think SJ is rebuilding yet. Or at least, they're not planning on sucking.

I expect it to be really agonizing night after night with streaks that guide this forum's psyche, haha. We'll for sure go on like a 5 game win streak and be just outside the playoffs, then drop like 4 in a row to the Ducks/Sharks and say do we really want to not tank this year?

While another top 5 pick would be great, the roster is so young at this point that the black hole is fine. A single meaningful game during the season would be nice. I'd also like to see if Doughty is done, just hasn't cared, or if it's some combo of the two. The other 4 old heads, whatever, but Doughty is the important one with that contract.

I've noticed that us,the LA Kings fan base, have a collective belief that Doughty will bounce back from whatever reason his play has declined. And that's because we know if he doesn't,we are in trouble. On blue line, and with our cap. I've seen enough flashes from him to still believe. .....I think.

Doughty is not worth is contract, that has become obvious to me, however he is still a top pairing guy. I want Blake to find someone ala Willie Mitchell to play with Drew. I know given Drew's number of games in the league and his contract he should not need big brother with him anymore, but wouldn't it me nice if he did?

Drew is still a top D in the league. If the NHL goes to the Olympics he will be on team Canada. No longer as a top pair on that team but 2nd or 3rd pair

The last time they played meaningful games (17-18), Dewey had one of, if not his best season, you could argue he should've won the Norris. If he checked out because he got paid, wouldn't that have happened after 11-12? He already won everything, Olympic Gold, WJC Gold, the Stanley Cup, and he got paid.
His resume is already very impressive and he still is likely to add to it
