Maybe, but look how badly Muruelo f***ed up and sold the franchise for $1.2B after buying it 4 years prior for $425M.
Sports franchise game has been on a roll.

With the astronomical increase in values over the last decade I wonder if/when the music is going to stop and the latest owner loses.

When society becomes so good that tribal escapism is no longer profitable, or when society collapses and the masses can no longer afford their opioid hit.

As we are stuck in that mushy middle....I'm guessing not in our lifetimes.

I have no idea why so many people are rooting against Utah. Phoenix was a mess the whole time. It was overdue to put that mess out of its misery. Utah is a perfectly good place to put a team. Is this a north/south thing? Would some people be happier if they had stayed more southern?

Well my post was more in amusement of the situation, the ole "take the team out of Phoenix but the you can't take the Phoenix out" saying.

That said, I've expressed my doubts about Utah as an NHL market. The owner talks a good game and him being the NBA owner will help but I think he's going to find out eventually that there just isn't enough sports dollars to support overlapping leagues playing 80 combined home games in a metro that is about the same size as Raleigh. To me it'd be like if Dundon moved the Hornets to Raleigh while keeping the Hurricanes, or vice-versa, we all know that would be a disaster.

Since the NHL is the most gate-driven league and the tickets aren't cheap, they can't afford to go through a spell like the Hurricanes did 2009-2018.

If only we were so lucky to f*** up into $1.2B 😔 Maybe in our next life

The blowback against Utah is a lot less than what Canes and Avs experienced. This is more on the Atlanta scale of harshness, which is to say it’ll probably be forgotten soon.

Yeah sorry if it sounded like I directed that at you more than I meant, your post echoed a lot of what I’ve heard not only here but on the main board. I do think it’s a good town for hockey and I tend to root for smaller/medium sized markets. I like the Avs having a more natural rival so I’m good with it. At this point I’d rather see relocation than expansion if it makes sense, such as this.

It might fail but I don’t think it’s any more likely than some other markets. Market failure to me usually comes way more from ownership than the market. If your owner invests and hires people good at their jobs you tend to get a good product which tends to bring fans.

How bad do you have to be defensively/how toxic must your reputation be that a 50+ point defenseman can't find any NHL suitors?
thing is you could say the same for Tyson Barrie and John Klingberg. That style of OFD that ranges from "probably should be protected" to "flat out BAD" in their own end is being phased out recently.

Well, I can't speak on Barrie, but I thought the recurring injury problem was the reason Klingberg no longer had any suitors
