Oof, don't love that. The Leaf had his leg extended and didn't even make an attempt to move laterally to get the body. I wouldn't say it was malicious per se, but it does kind of speak to a lack of respect for other players and how dangerous the game can be.

And historically, that's another one of the dangers of preseason- lots of marginal guys actively trying to do damage to the other team's guys so coaches notice them. Much less of an issue than it used to be, but there's always a few.

I have no idea why so many people are rooting against Utah. Phoenix was a mess the whole time. It was overdue to put that mess out of its misery. Utah is a perfectly good place to put a team. Is this a north/south thing? Would some people be happier if they had stayed more southern?
If people on HF26 are rooting against Utah you have to be some kind of blind/delusional. I’m not saying you have to root for them, or even give a passing f*** about them but root against?

It's because they (hockey "elites") wanted the team to end up in a Canadian market like Quebec, TOR2.0, etc

If he's that good it won't take long for other players to go out of their way to play with him in Philly, similar to how you're now seeing players try to get to Chicago to play with Bedard.

Especially when it comes to a player like Kaprizov, I feel like Carolina is going to be a major obstacle in the way of Chicago's ability to get him. They're the contender with the most draft and prospect capital to make a deadline deal for him next season if Minnesota is again mediocre, and Chicago will likely not be good enough next season to add at the deadline. And unlike Guentzel, Kaprizov is so above-the-norm that a Panarin-style, king's ransom extension is well-worth the price.

Kaprizov ain't going anywhere, WTF is that fantasy? Minnesota's massive cap penalty from the Parise and Suter buyouts (still the dumbest thing they could have done, keeping them on the roster would have been far better) ends after this year. They go from over $14m in penalties to $1.6m. Not only will they have room to sign him for whatever he wants, they'll have room to massively improve their roster.

The rumor is that Kaprizov wants out and has his sights set for Chicago. Where the rumor started? Probably someone's backside. But it's out there.

I think it's a real question if Minnesota is able to get good enough at a rapid enough pace to convince the Kaprizov camp to stay in Minnesota. This may be the Pettersson situation all over again, though, where the team suddenly takes a huge step forward right when they needed it the most.

If he's still unsigned in January next year, it'll be worth taking somewhat seriously. But this is a guy like Pettersson- Minnesota ain't going to let him go until there's zero chance he's coming back. Even if he's considering leaving, the odds are still strongly against it happening.
