Yes, but that's also showing a league-wide inability to accurately value defense. We got a whole bunch of elite defensive players, whose perceived value is less around the league.
I guarantee you if Aho chooses to cherry pick all season long and go from his 80ish point average to 95 points, but go from +20 or so to -10, he'll get Hart votes.
If Jordan Staal scores 25 G but goes from a + player against the league's best to -15, he'll get Selke votes.
If Jaccob Slavin were to score 50+ points, but be a - player defensively, he'll get Norris votes.
I just don't think the league, even the elitest of the elite hockey minds, really watch our team. Too many teams to watch every night. For most hockey minds, points is what we really look at to value a player.
