Yegor Sharangovich has good wheels.
He had 46 Points in '21-22 including 24 Goals. 6' 2" 196lbs @ 25 yrs old.
Saying that Tyler Tofoli is still a good player @ 30 years old.

Looks like Matthews will be signed by the Leafs.
Nylander wants a big raise. $10M?

I know that many people are down on Lafreniere, but my goodness, if he hits? He'd be the crown jewel of this year's offseason class when you consider the (at least) 9 possible seasons of prime-age play. If the target is him, though, I would wait around to see if the Rangers don't find a Goodrow taker. If they can't, that would be the moment to lay the gauntlet down.

If the Rangers do manage to bridge him, though, I would look at either Tom Wilson or Lindholm. I know that's Wilson is like the quintessential blueprint for the decline-years UFA overpay a la Lucic, but as a one-and-done rental toy? He would be the total shit here.

Lafreniere is interesting but I fear he's a poor man's version of Taylor Hall. I would be surprised if he ever scored more than 60-70 points in a season and I also would not be surprised if he topped out being a 50 point winger.

IMO that's a somewhat misguided, if understandable, concern. Unlike any other team that has the cap to offer sheet players, however, the Canes' draft choice is, at worst, going to be in the late-20s in 2024. It may even be likely that it's in the 30s considering how good our team is. Teams are lucky to find decent NHL contributors in our slot, let alone even 40-50 point players. I honestly think it's worth a shot if the Rangers are still backed against the wall by late-July.

THE KINGS JUST GOT FLEECED

Yeah, no, I would not trust the thoughts of anyone on the boards, let alone a reactionary 19 year old. I like Nathan's energy and he runs a well-organized channel for someone so young, but teenagers' thoughts are what they are for a reason.

If Vegas showed us anything, it's that if you want to acquire premium talent via trade, you need balls of steel and a willingness to make tough decisions. Vegas is successful because they always give up enough assets to close the agreements. My one concern for the LA brass, though, is that imitators don't usually do as well as the originator, and Dubois is a player with far more work ethic-related question marks than the guys that Vegas generally targets. It's probably better long-term, at least IMO, to forge your own organizational path rather than emulate the prior champs.

I would take Laf, but like Tippet would cost a ton to acquire that i don’t see us giving. I don’t think an offer sheet is likely

The Tippett and Lafreniere situations are fundamentally different. Tippett is stuck on a rebuilding team with an ultra-valuable, under-$2M cap hit for this year. Some team in a Tampa-esque cap situation will copycat and drunkenly spend draft assets up the wazoo to get him in.

A team like Carolina may very well be able to underpay in assets to get Lafreniere, OTOH. The Rangers have a bunch of NMCs and really only have Goodrow as a potentially-moveable cap dump. He very well could be had for the Kotkaniemi return or slightly more (if it's deemed that it would require a 1x$8.5M to pry him).

Laf could be offer sheeted for that for sure but heck if Tippet can be had for the Hagel return do it.

We would have a heck of future adding Laf and Tippet to this group. Might have a hard time affording it but it would be cool

Yeah, for the reasons that I stated, Laf should be the get. Laf-Aho-Jarvis/Svech-KK-Necas is a potent and sustainable top-6 long-term.

I would absolutely be on board with a Laf acquisition, but IMO that's more of a 2024 or 2025 move in terms of when it would pay off than something that would help us now. Even if we do that, we still need at least one add that pushes us to a cup now cause you have to strike while the iron is hot, and given upcoming contract renewals over the next few seasons, the iron might not be this hot again for us for a while.
