I owe Massholes an apology. Apparently the guy that put McDavid 5th in the Hart vote and Pasta 1st is a Pittsburgh guy. He's just a contrarian that purposely makes...questionable...choices on his ballots to get his name out there for the attention.

He also had Bergeron 4th in Selke voting and left Karlsson off his Norris vote, but did include Mikhail Sergachev on it.

Id say that he shouldn't be getting a vote anymore, but apparently he's been doing stuff like this for years, so maybe they just don't care.

Interesting. I came here to wonder about the next 7 years:

Kotkaniemi for $4.82M.
PLD for $8.5M.

Did not expect a Newhook/Kotkaniemi comparison.

PLD I feel was underrated for a few reasons but now with that contract and what the Kings gave up... gonna be a lot of pressure, albeit in not such a pressure cooker market.

Montreal is obsessed with middle 6 centers.

I like the deal in a vacuum for LA. I love the nice touch of Montreal’s pick. I would much rather pay fringe 1C PLD 8 x 8.5 than Lindholm.

This doesn't make sense; the new contract wouldn't kick in until July 1st right?
Yes, but you need to have the cap space when extending a player. The CBA bit is nigh-indecipherable:
A Club shall only be permitted to sign a Player to an "extension" of the existing SPC in the amount of: (A) the SPC of the Player to be extended (then included in the Club's Averaged Club Salary); plus (B) the Club's Payroll Room in the current year; plus (C) the aggregate Averaged Amounts of any other SPC or SPCs that expire at the end of such League Year (to extent the Club has other such SPCs which are currently counting in the Club's Averaged Club Salary); minus any previously Tagged Payroll Room. The Tagging Rule referred to in paragraph (e)(iv)(C) above will thereafter apply.
An additional thing (not sure if it effects), the cap goes up 10% for the off-season only from July 1 onwards.
Nevertheless, in order to ensure that Clubs may have sufficient time and flexibility to plan their rosters during the off-season, the Upper Limit shall be temporarily raised by ten (10) percent to permit Clubs additional flexibility with their Averaged Club Salaries during the period from July 1 until and including the last day of Training Camp.

apology not accepted. Don't indict us all over one retaaahd.

Not that I was expecting to overpay for bear, but he wasn’t worth half he made here.

Edit: for clarification this was referencing Ghost Bear. Not our other bear.
