Probably exactly what the NHL hoped for after this happened. The Dundon school of "(almost) any publicity is good publicity". There's probably a set of folks that probably never even knew who Ivan Provorov was, but now have his jersey. A subset (or others) might even spend the money to go see him play as well now when the Flyers come to their city.

Give people a cause, or even a perceived cause, and they'll spend money on it.

Saw a clip of EJ Hradek frothing at the mouth over Provorov's decision to not put on the ribbon. He actually suggested that because of this, Ivan should go back to Russia and join the conflict against Ukraine.

NHL is going clownworld just like everything else.

If Svech is suspended because of the boarding call, do the Canes recall Jack or does Rees get the call up?

That was very strange behavior.

If people who don't want to wear the ribbon have to wear the ribbon, then what does the ribbon really represent?

Not supporting a cause, because people who don't support the cause are also wearing the ribbon.
It represents the same thing pride month does when every corporation does it on twitter, but their middle east accounts don't.
Like VW. Whatever airlines. Banks, etc.

Revenue generation.

It's so very cynical and so very obvious.

A word to the wise..who else will follow suit? I believe Tampa employs this strategy.

More NHL teams should (had this family discussion last night after Patches injury) take this path mirroring what the NBA has evolved too (baseball plays so many games that rest days are inherent in most players' schedules).

Need to be assured of making playoffs of course.

We had this discussion this past offseason. For the record, I hope that more NHL teams don't take this path. But that the Canes do. :naughty:

Tro in the press and coaching staff firing line:

I can see his point "kind of". He said they've been fine offensively as a line, and they haven't really based on what they should produce, but they are giving up a lot of goals.

At 5v5 (when the line is together), the line of LAF-Tro-Panarin is ranked 44th out of 70 for goals scored/60 (lines that have been together > 150 min) and 63rd (as in 63rd best, so bad) out of 70 in GA/60. So just so-so on offense (due to Panarin), but terrible on defense.

Trocheck's numbers look good because he's getting a bunch of PP points, but at 5v5 (which is what Gallant is referring to when he's mentioning their line), he has only 14 points this season while playing predominantly with Panarin. That's the same number as Eric Staal and Jesper Fast. His Points / 60 min is 1.29, which is ranked 297th among forwards with > 300 min TOI in the NHL. Ouch. The only Canes forwards with worse 5v5 scoring are Stepan (1.15) and Kotkaniemi (1.13).

Trocheck's GA/60 is 2.48 which is the 3rd worst for any NYR forward (his most common line-mates, Panarin and Laf are a little worse). Stepan and KK's numbers are 0.96 and 1.48 respectively, so they are doing well defensively while not scoring a ton (granted, against weaker competition/easier usage).

He's been a pretty bad 5v5 player so far in NY.

The ribbon thing is such a stupid analogy because Kramer was in the fundraiser doing his part and showing his support for the cause. Provorov wasn’t on the ice because he doesn’t support the cause. I don’t really have a strong opinion either way on the issue but once you bring Seinfeld into it AND f*** it up, I have to comment.
