I can see his point "kind of". He said they've been fine offensively as a line, and they haven't really based on what they should produce, but they are giving up a lot of goals.

At 5v5 (when the line is together), the line of LAF-Tro-Panarin is ranked 44th out of 70 for goals scored/60 (lines that have been together > 150 min) and 63rd (as in 63rd best, so bad) out of 70 in GA/60. So just so-so on offense (due to Panarin), but terrible on defense.

Trocheck's numbers look good because he's getting a bunch of PP points, but at 5v5 (which is what Gallant is referring to when he's mentioning their line), he has only 14 points this season while playing predominantly with Panarin. That's the same number as Eric Staal and Jesper Fast. His Points / 60 min is 1.29, which is ranked 297th among forwards with > 300 min TOI in the NHL. Ouch. The only Canes forwards with worse 5v5 scoring are Stepan (1.15) and Kotkaniemi (1.13).

Trocheck's GA/60 is 2.48 which is the 3rd worst for any NYR forward (his most common line-mates, Panarin and Laf are a little worse). Stepan and KK's numbers are 0.96 and 1.48 respectively, so they are doing well defensively while not scoring a ton (granted, against weaker competition/easier usage).

He's been a pretty bad 5v5 player so far in NY.

This all makes the whole Tro-to-KK drama even funnier.

JR and the Canucks have had him in limbo for a while. Everyone knew he was getting fired, Bruce included, but they kept having him coach. The fans rallied around Bruce and had him to tears behind the bench more than once. Even some of the players said it affected them because they all love him. Lots of hockey people upset with the Canucks because of it.
A firing is always difficult & human decency requires approaching the person directly, quickly (it always gets out) and with some empathy. JR failed big time here but I don't think he gives a damn.

btw: agree with ADSkinner above.....Tocchet is an arse.

Well they haven’t had any chemistry. That’s being laid on Trocheck’s feet a bit, which I don’t get. You can’t assume chemistry. Doesn’t matter how good the player is.

There’s no reason to think Trocheck wouldn’t be close to leading us in points right now. Can you honestly see him not getting pts between Necas and Svech this year? He could leading the team between that and pp time. He’d be making the pp likely better too, with Burns being a shooter they may have moved him back to the bumper position this season instead of putting him floating in the high slot like they did last year.

Oh, no doubt we'd be way better off with him in the lineup. I like Tro a lot and he'd be exactly the solution at 2C right now. At least I think he would, given that I also thought he'd have been great next to Panarin. And he hasn't been. So who really knows.

Jeff Oniel was just bitching about how the canes never gave him a tribute video when he came back with the leafs… sounded mad… I’m going to blame that classless Jim Rutherford

Literally all he's done since leaving Carolina is bitch about the organization. Dunno if that was any different back when he first came back with the Leafs, but given his personality, I'd imagine not.
