From what I've heard from reliable sources, Abby joined the team during bar hops, and on more than one occasion, she was "escorted" to hotels by various players, not just Cole.
And I mean, if not for the professional aspect of it, and the whole fiancee part of it, good for her. But it turns out that what's fun in college doesn't translate to real life very well when you have actual responsibilities in your personal and professional life.

But I have to admit, I do get a laugh out of the grooming Svech business.

Yeah, if she wasn’t already engaged, it probably wouldn’t have even made the news cycle. I will say that of the players I’ve heard were “involved”, Cole was the only married one.

And here we were thinking that the likely reason the Canes had become a desirable team destination for other players was some combination of location, RBA, or Cup chances. :sarcasm:

There's probably a LOT of truth in this. It goes back to that whole dumb ass "guys only want one thing and it's disgusting" tweet.... Actually , no. I want to be left the hell alone, on a beach somewhere, in 60 degree temps with a beer and 3 rods in the water, with my dog at my side. ALONE. Like once a week maybe, I want that with my wife. But usually she has to instigate it because I just don't care.

That being said, I have known plenty of women that are like that. Like DAILY. with whoever they find attractive. My wife's best friend years ago was that girl. (She's dead now, shocker). Yeah, some dudes are like that and it takes two to tango, but to act like there aren't a ton of girls out there that are this way is laughable. Some even fetishize it. To quote my wife "women are way, way worse than men, you have no idea"

I've also read somewhere, I can't recall where, that Abby was pretty much this way, and the ex tolerated it or something. This goes way back to when she was the intermission announcer years ago and even stuff with NC state, or something. It's not the first I've heard it either.

Is that the appropriate beer to rod ratio for maximum enjoyment?

The accuser mentioned how Cole was always bragging about his exploits. I would guess it wouldn't be too hard to find someone who would bring that to light if it was the case.

It's strongly in the NHL's best interest not to take an investigation to that level unless their hand is forced.

They can document that they reached out to the accuser through the only known method of contact, and that the accuser did not respond. At that point their legal ass is covered and the investigation (such as it is) is complete.

Only negative things can happen if they take the next step and start surveying literally anyone else about their knowledge of this topic. I doubt they even took an on-the-record statement from Cole himself, other than acknowledgement of the situation for the purpose of starting the investigation.

FWIW: Hockey clearly has its issues but for the most part it’s player base compares much more favorably to FB, MLB & BB athletes.
Does it? Or do most people comparatively just not care enough about hockey players in this country to make the digging up dirt to not be worth the time to those who like to do such things.?

Toronto is trying to make losing to teams tanking for Bedard a habit.

I got to say, it's early, but the Rangers and Canes clearly seem like the best two teams in the East this year. The Metro crown and home ice is going to be a total dog-fight between them.
The Penguins look good right now as well. Doesn’t hurt that none of them are.

Penguins and Capitals are zombies that the league has yet to kill off. Maybe this is the season that Washington finally dies, with Wilson and Backstrom out long-term, but still too early to definitively say such a thing despite their slow start. It's so easy for that group to turn with a flick of a switch the moment that Ovechkin's stick catches fire.

And see that...just when everybody was crossing their fingers that the Caps would finally be going Bedard, Ovechkin has one of those games to carry them all on his back. I'm not going to celebrate the death of Washington until the fat lady truly sings. I know our division too well to do that.

Washington has no shot at Bedard, they have too much actual NHL talent. They'll go to that state of limbo the post-Lidstrom Wings did for a few years until OV retires first.

The online brigade always likes to harp on the idea that limbo is a bad thing for a hockey club, but it actually isn't if you're always on the front end of the bubble. Having a club that always squeezes into the playoffs is a good way to keep your fanbase in tact and your season tickets popular and relevant. Hockey limbo only truly sucks if you are constantly on the outside looking in. The latter was our Dark Age, in a nutshell.
