No evidence found supporting the accusations against Ian Cole by the NHL, who have closed the matter.

In the statement they say they made multiple attempts to reach out to the accuser and were unsuccessful in establishing contact.

Not much the league could do there. If the accuser doesn't provide more than what's on the social media post, there's nothing to continue the investigation

I will stake a claim: the accuser will come out again with a half-assed excuse why she couldn't be reached and a statement where the NHL is at fault here when shutting down the investigation and they are essentially covering for Cole.

I'm glad for the sake of hockey and humanity that the accusation against Ian Cole appears to be bullshit. The timing seemed way too coincidental with the Abby Labar drama to not at least consider that some sadsack could've wanted to be an attention whore and wreck a player's career out of some sort of jealousy or envy. If you're not willing to show your face and even meet with the organization about your claim, you are probably a lying POS. Other organizations should follow the Lightning's lead in giving their employee the benefit of the doubt and waiting for more evidence before throwing him under the bus.

But who would carry a grievance against Ian Cole?

Who is paying more for Gibson from Anaheim? When does it start?

Having watched tonight’s game, Gibson would look terrible behind any of those teams. He looked bad tonight, and the Ducks defense certainly didn’t help. So there’s little reason why he’d look better on any team with questionable defense.

Gibson's inconsistent sometimes: he was totally out of his damned mind vs Seattle a few days ago, but his team constantly getting reamed in your own end has to take a toll on his numbers. I would be curious to see how quickly those numbers in a team like Carolina's (again, Andersen could get wildly overpaid in UFA if he has another year like last year and actually stays healthy for the playoffs, so the Canes making a Gibson trade isn't some crazy scenario) end up reverting back to elite status.

Wow. It's like I predicted that suspending a guy (I dont care if it was with pay or not) over a single post on a brand new twitter account was a bad idea.

Im shocked they found no evidence. Shocked. Totally.

I would assume reaching out to the Twitter account making the accusations?

But you can’t even do that unless they follow you.

@Lempo has the gist of it in the post above, but AFAIK that didn’t happen.

My guess is they took the situation at face value: the accusation is anonymous and there’s no trail of bread crumbs to investigate. If the accuser had wanted to be part of an investigation, they wouldn’t have done it this way in the first place. The point was never to have him convicted of something, just to make the statement.
