I think it's more that some people very quickly changed their opinions. I don't see anyone wanting to bench Marner or Tavares anymore....

Because they have played well and the leafs are actively trying to sign them.

If tavares was playing like Kampf (Trouba has reportedly been horrific)

I think they would be ok with hardball tactics.

Heck even if the leafs decided that they weren’t signing Marner I think they would be ok with pressure tactics

Trouba hasn't been playing THAT badly.

There's more to this story than meets the eye. These are cutthroat maneuvers rarely ever seen. NYR want a divorce like my first wife wanted to get rid of me.

Take the hint Trouba: you're not wanted anymore.

The bulk of the Rangers problems have come from Shesterkin. He's playing like absolute garbage. If he was playing to his regular standards the Rangers would be leading their division.

Instead the team has had to rely on the second coming of Jonathon Quick.

Kreider hasn't been all that bad either. It's unusual for a team to want to cut ties like that with someone who has been a valued member of the team their entire career. Clearly there is bad blood in the locker room and as Captain and Associate both Trouba and Kreider are at the epicentre of it all.

Rangers want to fix it before it becomes a situation like Ottawa had in the worst locker room meltdown of all time.

I don't know how to feel about that.

On one hand, definitely a wee bit underhanded and definitely goes against the spirit of the free agency deal he signed. On the other if you want to avoid that threat just be more flexible with the NTC.....

Have you been made redundant at any of your jobs?

I have. It was just business, and I accepted it was just business. I did get a year's salary, but a little bit less than Trouba. But I had given them 15 years.

I was more upset that a teammate, with 43 years, was treated the same as I was. They could have given her a Retirement send off ... that was classless.

Trouba, he just got there ... in comparison ... and it is the nature of the snack bracket he's in.

I could be wrong and new information could emerge shortly but dumping Trouba (at Christmas) feels a little personal and not exactly about hockey or Shesterkin's new deal. There's no advantage to clearing cap in season where you can dip into free agency, and signing Shesterkin doesn't impact cap today. If NYR was landing a big fish, I assume they could have engineered a dollar in dollar out with Trouba going the other way.

This seems like they are managing angrily and needed a fall guy to make a big splash.

Yeah, in season is different, unless they tried in the off-season, which I believe was said this has gone on for quite some time?
My redundancy was 2 weeks before Christmas, along with about 8 other senior employees.

Brian Burke said on Jeff Marek's new show that he pulled the exact same move (Trouba) on Kaberle. He told him waive, or else youre sitting in the press box with me for the rest of the year.

Like people get fired for under performing in their real life jobs, this is no different. If NHL contracts weren't completely guaranteed he would have 100% been bought out in the summer.

I think how it went down publicly doesn’t look good on Drury

Trouba aside, the Rangers now have $8 million in cap space this season, which is a heck of a number. It will be interesting to see who they use it on.

Nashville is such a mess. Burnette not even keeping any lines together for long to even gain some kind of chemistry. I dunno,..Looks bad on Trotz and maybe he should just step back into the coaches role and see what he can bring outta the players being behind the bench while still Gm-ing.

Has been happening a lot this past year at my company. Lots of good people being let go.

Pierre's buyout projection.
I don't think it wouild be a stretch to suggest Roy has no use for him.

Bruins salvage a win again vs the Flyers.
Sure like Michkov, his skill really stands out on that team.

Many claimed McBain is not a goal scorer but he's got 9 goals (same as our $13-$14m wannabe), in 26 games. His high is 12 in 82 games.

He's been making, and will continue to make, $8 million per year, and now he gets to live somewhere very nice. Not a lot of tears to shed for me because of the "threat".

This is all fair - don't disagree either. BUT this is also why more and more guys are going to push for full NMCs

He is certainly capitalizing on his chances. He’s shooting 42% .. and had 19 shots in 25 game

I doubt it’s sustainable but he’s a pending RFA and Utah could give him a big deal
