Q has to be livid at Babcock right now. Good luck with your redemption, which some team for sure was going to do. Still might.

I’d be shocked if Jenner is held accountable for this. It seems he was just doing his job as a captain on the PR side.
I mean his role is pretty questionable IMO. He must've heard how some of the younger players are not ok with this practice, even if he was. Surely that has come up in a group text or something. And he did nothing. How will that locker room look now? Him and other vets defended Babcock here, and now Babs is gone.

They are all adults (we are not talking about kids or teenegers here), they have a choice and an obligation to themselves to do what's right for them. Hey here something new, learn to say no. He didn't put a gun to their heads. Enough with the cuddling of adults.

You should look up something called power dynamics. They still exist amongst adults.

But I assume you're the type of person that didn't see anything wrong with what happened with Kyle Beach because...he was an adult that should have learned to say no.

It’s not like he advocated for Babcock to be coach. I blame Jarmo and Davidson for the poor decision to hire him. For all we know Jenner was asked to help the PR disaster by making that statement. He could have said no but that would look bad to have your Captain and Coach at odds before the first game was played. I guess I will reserve judgement until more details come out.

If this was happening to the Avalanche how do you think Gabe would handle it?

Having lived in Ohio for a few years, I remain a huge fan of the State and the people. I cannot stress enough how wonderful 90% of the people I lived with and worked with there were. My folks decided to retire and move back there.

The fans deserve a lot better than what they've been subjected to. I like Jarmo, I really do. I defended they guy when he decided to keep everyone and go for it. Columbus both needed and deserved to win a playoff round. Much like the people of Columbus, Jarmo is a nice guy.

But this has to be the end for Jarmo. And while Babcock is the issue at play here, there are other issues that have been building. How do the Bluejackets play? What is their identity as a team? I don't think anyone really knows the answers to these questions and that's the fault of the GM. I'm not sure he has a vision of what the team is supposed to be or even what he wants it to be.

Apparently, Jarmo has now promoted Pascal Vincent to take over. He's the guy Jarmo passed on in favor of Brad Larson and then again for Mike Babcock. If I was McConnell, I'd be furious right now and Jarmo would be bearing the brunt of it.

"Cuddling" of adults?

Adults need cuddles too. I think the world needs more cuddling of adults.

Oof. Careful… I got a 24hr timeout for a similar joke about him.
Yeah, but henchy has paid off the mods, so he's safe.

Anyways...but there has to be more to this Babcock story, right...? I don't like the guy from everything I've heard about him, but I'm baffled that what's come out so far is enough to make him resign before the season has even started...

Yeah...I feel like this could easily devolve into a rift in the CBJ room given that their veteran captain went to bat for Babcock so definitively while (allegedly) the complaints against Babcock that have now got him essentially canned came from younger player(s). Seems like a divided team.

There usually is. I'm a big fan of second chances and while I had my serious reservations about Mike when he was first hired, I warmed to this chance over the summer. It's a little hard for me to believe that Mike's second chance was burned this easily. It was just Jenner that defended Mike either, Johnny Hockey did as well. Wonder how he's feeling about all this. He took a chance on Columbus and then last year was a nightmare of injuries and this season is starting off with this...

I’d argue I’m on the bad side of most mods around here.

It sounds like the real issue was not the photos thing. There was another issue, away from the team facilities, where he looked though the phone of a player for ‘several’ minutes. That’s simply going too far.

That would do it and I would be on board with his firing over that.

Jesus Mike...has there been another head coach in the NHL that's made it 0 games before being fired before?

Yeah asking for a photo of family, pets or hobbies isn’t a big deal to me and didn’t make sense for this. Asking for a phone, away from team facilities, and rifling through it… that’s well beyond the pale.

Obviously it would have been a non-story if all Babcock did was asking to see a pic of mom, dad and the family dog.

Bissonnette wouldn't even have talked about it.

The story started as that and showing photos… not as much here but Twitter and main board were stating how even that was weird and fireable. It took the additional investigation to reach the other part of this. Not shocking Babs would do something stupid, but it wasn’t how it started.

To me it seems like even Biz of all people held back what he truly knew. He and Whitney put it out there to lay the groundwork but I am sure they were told it was worse.

Yeah totally the same situation as Kyle Beach, bravo on your assumption. Some actions have different consequences. If a man is all f***ed up because Babcock asked him for photos of his dog and he showed them to him, turns around and bitches about it, then yeah I don't have much sympathy. From what we know so far that's all he asked them about, nothing too crazy.

As far as your power dynamics comment it exists everywhere in nature and has been part of the world since its existence, so yeah im aware. I don't teach my kids that the world is all rainbows and unicorns, because that's not reality. We are humans and all of us have deficiencies.

I’d agree with that. Guessing they couldn’t confirm or were respectful of the source on that part. In the end, they were in the right.

Jarmo should hand in his resignation as well. He's done a horrible job in CBJ so far.
I don't think he's done a horrible job, but I think it is fair to say he's failed to execute a successful long-term plan for the team and I think all of the forced roster changes made him lose his vision. He seems to be reacting a lot.

As for the Mike Babcock thing.... I'm not positive whose decision it was. John Davidson was brought back in after Drury showed him the door, and hiring Mike Babcock seems more like a JD idea than a Jarmo one. Either way, I think the organization is at a point where a new vision is probably for the best. If I was McConnell, I'd probably can both JD and Jarmo. Not sure who's available to replace them though. Maybe they could get Darche from Tampa Bay. I still want to see Patrick Roy back in the NHL, but I doubt the lights of Columbus burn bright enough for him.

I just don't see how Jarmo is going to survive media day.

Kinda shows what kind of person Babcock is and how much he's learned huh? All that drama with his past and this is the first thing he does before the season even starts.
