Lol Flames never change. I know we had several player-coach conflicts last year so hear me out fellas. Let’s bring in one of the most abrasive old school coaches out there in Gallant.

Here's my prediction if they hire Gallant:

1- Flames will 100% make the playoffs next season. Might even win the division.

2- Gallant and Conroy will get in a "heated argument" within 2 or 3 years and Conroy will angrily fire Galant's ass.

Brilliant. This is fantastic. Elias Lindholm come on down to Denver and play for a players coach and Cup champ instead

GM of the leafs is one of the most difficult jobs in this entire industry. Not a fanbase that’s going to sit quietly while their team sucks for 15 years allowing a proper bottoming out. Cough cough. Dubas is pretty solid at drafting. He would have done much better with our picks than we did (Bleakley, Jost, Kaut, Newhook, Byram to name a few). He’s not the best gm in the league but I’d say his failure in Toronto is more based on unrealistic timelines , fanbase expectations, and meddling of management above him.
You're not allowed to say Byram is less than a superstar. At least not until next summer after another very average season and the realization around here that Byram is more of a youngster who's learning to be a solid middle pairing guy. Rather than an upgraded Makar 2.0.

Losing that lottery will hurt for a decade.

I am still a Gallant fan, but the Flames hiring him would be hilarious. Absolutely the worst coach you can get for that type of job. Kings would be one team that should hire him if they want to take the next step. Oilers would be smart to hire him as well, I think he would correct a lot of the mistakes that the team has.

I’d extend 1 to a run to the conference finals maybe more. But yeah that’s how it would go. Frankly given the ages Calgary has in their lineup… not a bad plan. When it blows up you go all in on the rebuild. It you catch lightning in a bottle, you might get one amazing year.

Oilers hiring him would be scary af….

He won't be able to teach Leon Draisaitl how to give a f*** defensively.

The Athletic article on the Penguins is fascinating. It is certainly a planted hit piece on Hextall and Burke, but if they had the plan and implicit approval to break up the big 3 and then that was taken from them (and likely still of the table)... oooffff.

Fantastic article. Definitely a hit piece and makes Hextall/Burke (especially Hextall) look awful and there are two sides to every story.

However, I think we've also seen enough of Hextall as a GM to know what he is - and isn't - capable of. Ditto Brian Burke.

Lol @ Hextall thinking he could pass on Malkin and make Jeff Carter the 2C.

I mean if you're looking to re-build and be bad... that is one effective way of doing it.

Wait a second. They hired Nonis to be Craig's boss and subordinate? Isn't Senior VP of Hockey Ops above GM or am I off on the ORG structure for teams.
Technically he's the Senior Vice-President of Hockey Operations, Assistant General Manager. I literally copied and pasted that in this post from the website. So it sounds like he's an AGM and was brought in to give a first-time guy some mentoring. That said...oof, Nonis was a God-awful GM.

Sadly, one of the other AGMs is terminally ill, so that may have also played a part, though I can't be sure.

Yeah, I think that timeline will check out.

Man, that sucks. I had forgotten about Chris' ALS diagnosis. I just went and reread an article from the Athletic. Guy was given a year to live, three years ago. He's like me, he's playing with house money at this point. Sounds like he's still able to enjoy his time with friends and family and they said he was celebrating his three-year anniversary in March by working out, so there's that at least.
