Usually Top Ramen, I recently tried out spicy Buldak for the first time and damn near melted my face off (but it was damn good).

We also have a couple ramen joints here in Nebraska I frequent.
Wait... we didn't have any ramen joints when I lived there. You must be in Omaha (I grew up south of Kearney and lived in Lincoln for about 5 years). Closest I got to "top ramen" was the 10 for $10 shit from U-Save, with a handful of frozen vegetables and some canned chicken. Not too bad for about $2 when you're 19-25 poor-assed college student.

As someone from the True North who don't eat spicy this is something I've never been able to understand: how extremely spicy food can be enjoyable. I hate the taste of "heat" and I also hate being uncomfortable when I eat.

I tried several times but no, not for me. :dunno:

The answer is endorphins.

As someone from the True North who loves spicy food, I don’t think nationality has anything to do with it. I also have a love affair with vinegar and sour flavours too. My family thinks I’m weird when I just start putting either vinegar, lemon/lime juice or hot sauce on everything

You simply like things that hit the TRPV1 receptor. Spicy food, vinegar, mustard, garlic... they all hit the same thing and if you like it, you like the TRPV1 response and the endorphins it releases. You're probably more of a risk taker as well.

Really? Most Canadian kids aren't raised eating spicy food at home and regular restaurant food isn't spicy either. In other countries it's the opposite.

That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy spicy food as an individual but nationality sure influence what kind of food people like or dislike.

Nailed it on the flavours. Most underrated amazing food in my books - pickled garlic. Funnily enough, not a risk taker though. Most people probably think I’m the most vanilla person they know (when it comes to interests/hobbies)

Science isn't perfect!

I'm much the same... love all those flavors and pile them in my food. Picked, spicy, allium heavy foods are my jam. I fit the risk taker side of it though.

West vs Eastern Canada thing, maybe? Of people I know the split on liking vs not liking spicy food is around 60/40. Growing up my friends and I always used to put hot sauce on popcorn even

Even going out to eat (other than breakfast) has pretty well always been Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Mexican or pizza. Going out for the kind of thing you’d eat at home almost never happened here

I dunno, I suppose it may have been growing up with a Korean mother who put hot pepper into practically everything she ate. The discomfort is worth it if the flavor is good, and since spicy food tends to open up your sinuses, it can enhance that flavor.

Nope I’m in Lincoln. There’s been a huge restaurant boom here in the last seven or so years. Gray Whale is a sushi/ramen chain with a few locations, Ika San recently set up shop here and there’s one other place downtown whose name escapes me.

I'm not saying I disagree with it. I have no idea. I haven't watched the video, and, no offense, but I don't care to see it. Everything I had read suggested it was just a freak accident. I'm just saying/asking they must think there was some intent. Awful situation all-around.
It was an accident. It was a pretty bad reach to try and make a hit on a guy who was a good two feet away from the point on the ice where he was trying to make the hit, but what happened after that was unfortunate. I don't think you can prosecute hockey players for stretching to try and finish a check.
