I don’t get the Bedard doubts on this board.

When was the last time that a fresh 18 yo played like that in his first couple of months in the NHL? McDavid, that’s when.

McDavid had much better teammates to play with.

Crosby was playing with Mario on a stacked team.

Bedard plays with a Sharks level roster and STILL put up unbelievable numbers for someone his age.

He’s 100% the new generational player. Crosby, McDavid, Bedard.

Lots of hate for other teams players around here sometimes. Bedard is clearly trending towards being one of the best players in the league.

The way that people are reacting like that was a GOTY candidate.

Like I said, it's a nice goal. Don't really get the "YEESH OMG" tweets.
I haven’t seen any GOTY posts or anything… but it’s a nice goal. Who cares if people hype it.

I'm not doubting Bedard BTW, it's just that some of this hype and talk is cringe. Gushing over that goal is in the same category of posting his career total goals next to Gretzky in a graphic by TNT in their broadcast.

He's going to be great and sucks he's at Chicago. Oh well, could've been worse with a Canadian team...

I don't think there were many doubters. Most were just sick on the NHL shoving this unproven kid down our throats and hailing him the next coming of Gretzky. It was the same with Crosby and McDavid. If the NHL keeps shoving the kids down your throat, you just end up hating the kid. Unless he's on your team.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I mean the NHL has to hype their young stars. That’s the thing to do.

Besides 9 goals in your first 12 NHL games as an 18 yo kid is f***ing insane. Especially when your teammates are all garbage.

If they were hyping him up now and showing me those stats, I wouldn't mind nearly as much. There's some impressive stats to work with there. But if you have a Bedard cam before opening faceoff of his first ever game, show me a points counter comparing him to Gretzky on their first ever assist.... That's just absurd. Let his legend in the NHL grow organically.

I don't completely disagree with you though. They do need to promote their young stars, I just wish they'd go about it a different way.

Its always funny to see people get contrary when the media hypes up a world class play from a world class player...

Guess it would be different if Bedard was Finnish.

Oh and btw that's now 9 Goals and 13 points in 13 games for Bedard.... Very similar start to his rookie year as McDavid.

Or say all the hype Mack got his rookie year was probably annoying.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why people are gushing at that Bedard goal? It's nice, but also something Rantanen has done multiple times.

If it was anyone else but Bedard, people wouldn't mention it at all.
It’s a slick goal, nothing wrong with gushing about it. And I don’t recall Rants doing anything quite like that.

More importantly, 8 of those are 5v5. That's stunning. I thought there was the possibility of him scoring 40ish goals, because he has an amazing shot and he'll be force-fed with powerplay time (like he should).

8 even strength goals gets him tied for #2 with Cam Atkinson. Kyle Connor and Matthews with 9 EVG.

Here’s the hottest take that is going to appear on this board about this kid given the general vibe.

I love Bedard and have since the game against the Blazers last year. I’m super excited we might get a generational player who is a BC boy. I’m thrilled he’s in a big market (wish us wasn’t Chicago given the Beach situation) and even though it’s over the top at times I’m glad the NHL is heavily marketing a star for once. Crosby is on the tail end of his career and Bedard will probably take over as my favourite non-Av player within a year. I don’t usually tune into regular season games on a day the Avs aren’t playing but have definitely watched some Hawks games just to see him. He’s really fun to watch and doesn’t come across like a grumpy jerk like McDavid

I think a genuine difference between Bedard and McDavid is that McDavid comes off as unlikable. A guy who will slouch and get frustrated with his teammates a ton, and looks like he's not a joyful guy to be around.

Even if he wasn't in Edmonton I think people would feel that way about him. Though no doubt living in this city exacerbates how grumpy he probably is.
