I can't remember the exact name, I think it was the gold standard.... but it was a proposed method to determine the first overall pick by awarding it to the team that accumulates the highest number of points starting from the day that team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The idea being that a team truly built to tank wouldn't be able to win the required number of points to get the first overall draft pick, therefore teams wouldn't do it.

I wonder if that is why it was never implemented.
The Gold Plan. The PWHL has adopted a variation on it so we will see how that goes.

I’m gonna be pretty pissed if the goddamn Blackhawks get Celebrini.

I find myself conflicted. Severely hate the Mild. However, it would be something epic to see them grab the last playoff spot over Vegas so a little of me secretly wants to see them pull it off.
Right at this moment, my hatred for Vegas burns hotter, because the 2021 series was more recent. It would also benefit the Avs to have Vegas be out of the equation in the West and replaced with a bland team bound for a first round exit.

I think it's extraordinarily unlikely, because Minnesota is of course the reigning champion of futility and disappointment since they came into the league. But if it did happen, I would swallow my vomit and be happy that Minnesota pulled it off.

Roy now in a decent position to make the playoffs.

Looked like a lost cause a few weeks ago and he didn't get any help from Lou at the deadline.

I'd go for Vegas, Tampa, Minny, and Detoilet all missing the playoffs

I don't believe either Calgary or St. Louis will put pressure on Vegas.

It has to be Minnesota and Seattle. Tuesday is a huge night. The Wild play Arizona at home while the Kraken play the Golden Knights at home.

Minnesota win puts them 4 points back, Kraken win puts them 6 points back with a game in hand.

Still extremely unlikely to happen IMO but those two have the only realistic looking chances.

Wild and Kraken still play twice Vs Vegas. Faith basically in your own hands. Not that it's easy to win two games Vs Vegas.

Vegas form isn't exactly good though. Out of ten last games 7 points, Wild 11 points and Kraken 13.

Let's go!

Sullivan has clearly lost the locker room. When you see the pre-game tactic locker room clip and Mike says, "pay attention to the details and we should come out on top" and Letang pretty much gives McDavid a free goal, that showcases everything.
I seriously question the character of guys like Letang when they pull shit like that.

The real dilemma here is, do the Pens just up and give up that first rounder they owe SJ this year, or do they keep it and just hope to hell they don't suck even worse in 2025? Boomer and Hahn were debating it on NHL Radio today and they said just bite the bullet.

Nate's the best player in the league.for a few years now
Sadly, no to this. I think it is fair to say that McDavid is the best player, him coming back to the top 3 for the Art Ross after the trash season they had is pretty remarkable and showcases his talent. Some of that was due to a fluke 16-game winning streak, but he was able to do that. During, 2022 I think there was a good debate between Makar vs McDavid and I still believe there is a good one nowadays too. Simply because McDavid is more talented, however, Makar plays a tougher position and is as good as Connor, where you can say that Cale could realistically be better because of that.

I'm pretty sure Pittsburgh 1st rounder is top-10 protected, so the only way the Penguins get it is to keep doing what they did for the past 3 games lol. Letang was always bad defensively, but he has taken another level of being bad this season.
