Carolina hates paying for goaltending so unless Toronto is retaining half there's not a chance it happens. I wouldn't really put a whole lot on Samsonov turning his game around either. He's always been this roller coaster of a goalie which is why the Caps moved on. If the Canes are making a goalie move it has to be a good one with not much gambling involved. Samsonov is quite the gamble.
Really depends on Andersen's health. If he's out for the season, I could see them claiming Samsonov since his contract is up at the end of the year.

Carolina also doesn't like paying for rentals either, which is exactly what they'd have to do if Andersen isn't coming back. With so many teams needing an upgrade in goal, I doubt they get someone that's better than Samsonov anyways.

I fully don't expect any team to pick up him, but based on the prices that Friedmann talked about during the last HNIC, the prices for some of these extra goalers seem insane. I am not paying anything substantial for an Alex Lyon, Jake Allen gets more leeway but isn't an answer either. At least Samsonov has some ability to be a main starting goaler if he's able to regain his form and if Carolina dislikes giving up anything for goalers, I suspect they would want a freebie like Ilya currently is. Now with that said, I doubt they even pick him up because they're going through their own fiasco of crazy bad goaltending with Koochy's inconsistencies, Raanta's inability to stop any single shot, and Andersen's monthly injury woes.

Raanta and Samsonov are arguably the two worst performing goalies in the league who play on two of the better defensive teams in the league. Maybe Carolina has a magic wand to wave over Samsonov to suddenly make him play like it's last year. Seems like an awfully big gamble when they already have league worst Raanta as well. Raanta was waived and no one picked him up despite the small cap hit with teams more desperate for better goaltending. The Devils have Nico Daws with 3 AHL games played over picking up Raanta.

It's a big gamble, but what's the other option given how Carolina operates? The last time Carolina traded their 1st was for Skjei in 2020 and he had years left on his contract.

Outside of that, they go bargain bin hunting and trade their 3rd-7th round picks, even when they have decent-sized holes. I don't see them changing their MO this TDL. So goalies in their price range would be Reimer, Allen, Vladar, Lankinen, etc. The only one that may be a better gamble is Allen, but he still has an additional year.

What do you guys think you need for a Cup run? The trio of MacKinnon, Makar and Rantanen is so insanely good that it can carry you to a another cup as is. But what is the biggest need in the roster atm? and is there a chance of Landesog still joining before playoffs? If Avs get bot Lehkonen and Landeskog back is there still room for moves?

We desperately need a 2C. Colton has been great, but he's a 3C that's had to elevate because RyJo has been a disappointment. Going into the playoffs with our current center depth will end badly for us.

I’d argue a starting goalie, a 2c 4,5,6 defender as I see it

Im not suprised by RyJo not delivering, never been a fan. Wings got that Compher guy, yeah shit he has NMC and you thought he was a 4C. (sorry had to go there, he has been great for wings).

Who would be your prime target if you were a GM of the Avs? Sorry im not here to stir shit im just really curious because Rantanen is currently my 2nd favorite player after Barkov and i wouldnt mind him winning another cup. Maybe Kuznetsov? He doesnt have great numbers this year but he has been a good player and certainly knows how to play.

Robert Thomas would be a great fit, but he makes 8mil and is locked in for 7 more years so thats a no go.

Compher f***ed us in the playoffs last year. You'll only find a small amount of Avs fans that miss that POS. After the TDL he fell off a cliff and even lost his 2C role to Lars Ellar he was playing so badly.

We don't have many options that's for sure. Lindholm is pretty much the only guy that's available who would fit if the flames retained on him, or took RyJo back the other way. We'd have to outbid Boston though and our prospect pool is extremely thin.

A goalie and an actual good centre would be nice. We don't need any of Saint Louis' 20 goal scorers.

OOOoh Lindholm would be more than perfect tbh, if Avs land him its over for everyone else.

Landy won't be back until playoffs start so his cap is irrelevant

If Colorado doesn’t shore up there defense/goaltending aquiting lindholm still may not get us up over the top. Atleast that’s how I see it

Ok lets play what if; you got 2 top5 forwards in the league in MacKinnon and Rantanen, then you got the best d-man in the league in Makar, Then you might get captain Landeskog back who not only is one of the best net front guys, but is the kind of guy who skates to the opponent bench and beat 4 guys up. Then you got Bednar who is arguable a top3 coach in the league. Oh and it doesnt stop here, You got Nichuskin and Lehkonen who are players that will stop at nothing and will hit a mountain if you ask them, then deke arond said mountain and score a goal. Then there is Toews who would be #1 D-man in most teams, and now Gidard who has put his shit together.

The only way anyone beats that kind of team 4 times in playoffs is if your goalie lets you down.

Turning it around is pretty much asking him to be as good as Stuart Skinner. Low bar.

I feel like he's right there, and can be a starter.

I still like him more than Dumper and Groob, but barely lol.

To be perfectly honest I like lindholm the player but I think I’d rather have kadri back for a few reasons. Most notably his familiarity with the tea

A high end center?

Scorers in general. When Aho gets shut down in the playoffs and Svechnikov gets his annual injury, who on Carolina will score? They needed Jordan Martinook to go nuts last season in the playoffs - that isn't happening ever again.

They have SO many guys who skate and check well but nobody who can break a game open.

Yeah pretty much this. They have a lot of really good players but not any gamebreakers. You either have to have EVERYTHING go right, or you have guys like that who can take over the game when necessary in the postseason.

I’d put Slavin in the gamebreaker category if he was as gifted offensively as he is defensively.
