The recovery was reported at the time to be 12-18 months. IIRC even hench reported that but I might be mistaken on that.
There isn’t enough data to establish the recovery time in athletes. If you look at medical papers you get a range of 9 months to 2 years. The timeframe could have been deliberate for day based on the doctor’s recommendations. I don’t think you can say for certain either way. The message we clearly got was regular season, which was too specific to not give an out for the playoffs.

I definitely agree with the bolded. It would still have been in their interest to do it in April if they were timing the surgery though.

Unless they were told a shorter timeframe by the doctor. Then it would have made sense to wait to ensure he’s ‘out’ for the regular season.

We simply don’t have this information either way.

Getting a surgery done early in May with the hopes Landy can come back for the playoffs next April isn't the same as delaying a surgery to take advantage of LTIR. They're actually the opposite.

If there isn't enough data to know the exact recovery time for Gabe, why would we assume they timed it that way on purpose? They were just trying to get it done early and hope for the best.

With a large timeframe of 9 months to 2 years it would have been easy to do it in April and even if he is ready to come back early you say he is not. Like you said because of the uncertainty nobody would know any better.

The NHL gets copies of reports from the doctors for LTIR. So they’d know what the doctor recommended.

Yeah I know that but you know......

"Doc, it still hurts when I turn that way."
"OK then take a bit more time."
Of course… but you at least have to put on an honest face.

None of us know here definitively what the plan is. We are simply making assumptions and drawing conclusions based on little to no evidence. So no way for any of us to say with absolute certainty if it is planned for day 1 or 21.

Anyone saying that the Avs are cap circumventing with Landy is insane. It's a probably career ending injury with an experimental surgery.

The timeframe is ??? to "medically retired"

How is that a legal save? The poke check wasn't anywhere near the puck. He just laid his whole body down to trip him 4-5 feet outside his crease. That's a trip.

Tkachuk went flying into the boards too. Don't blame him for being upset.
Yeah I agree. The pokecheck was a lot more into his feet than towards the puck. I would be pissed too.
