Shit is awful. It’s not enough to have ads on every other bloody surface of the ice, on the boards, on helmets, projected onto glass, powerplays being sponsored, along with intermission reports, pre-games, post-games, just had to get advertisements on the jerseys too.

There's definitely more to the story than "he wanted to be near family"
It could also be that Johnny is just one of those guys who just want to enjoy playing hockey without the pressure of winning. He is the biggest star at Columbus now but I don’t think this make them a Cup fav. or even a playoffs team.
He gets to do his thing and as long as he gets PP time, he will put up points. Also the season always end early and he won’t be criticize bc the team is not expected to be competing for a playoff spot in the next 2 years. Unless they draft Bedard but if that happens, the pressure is for Bedard to be like the other Connor instead of Johnny being the one to lead.

Also don’t underestimate the western travel schedule vs eastern travel schedule

But then he could sign with NJ, and Islanders.

According to Friedman, he thinks the Isles were never truly in on Gaudreau, and he questioned the rumours about $10M+ offered by the Devils, saying it was likely $9M+. Sounds like he took the best deal outside of Calgary

Also, apparently he is leaving only $3M-$3.5M of take home money on the table by picking the 7-year Columbus deal over 8-year Calgary. Forgoing pocket change to be in a more comfortable setting.

Pittsburgh just improved their defense core a lot. Ty Smith and Petry are upgrades over Marino and Matheson.

I remember that like it happened just last week. The excitement that came with that signing that no one really expected. Believe it was Dryden's chance encounter with him or his agent at the grocery store.

Changed the fortunes of the franchise, both on the ice with a stud goalie, and off when the team was always accused of not willing to spend big money to make the team better.

Yeah one of the best signings for the Leafs ever.

You can only hope we got lucky with one of the guys they brought in.

Goaltending can change so much. Look at the Rangers now.

Is it just me or did the Habs get hosed on that trade?
Matheson had a bounceback year, and Petry is mid-30's with term still.

I think the Habs downgraded, but their respective play was quite similar last season - given that those results were team dependent. Petry should get a bump going to a better team, and Matheson will probably grade out worse.

Poehling is the X factor. If he reaches his potential, it's a clear win for the Pens.

I think Petry will thrive for a couple of years,
Doesn't have to be the lead dog behind Letang. Poehling, despite his exhalted hat trick in a garbage last game of the season, is a nothing reclamation project. Matheson has always seemed ok to me but who in the hell gave him that contract and another 4 years ?sheesh!
