That's why I'm glad Dubas signed Samsonov. He's not a safe bet either, but rather another home run cut. At least it doesn't put it all on Murray.

IIRC Smith is retiring, so Edmonton is running with Skinner and Pickard behind Campbell.
That’s the thing, double bet, lol.

I really wonder where klingberg goes. Seems like seattle was the easiest bet but now who knows.

Who even has cap space?

The top 10 of the 2016 draft has become a shit show for almost everyone involved.

1. Matthews - thank f*** the balls went our way lol
2. Laine - wanted out of WPG. Uncertain future
3. PLD - wanted out of CBJ and now out of WPG. Where does he not want out?!?
4. Poolparty - EDM wants to punt him away
5. Juolevi - MIA
6. Tkachuk - previous rumours of him wanting out of CGY. Uncertain future. Could leave next year.
7. Keller - ok finally some stability
8. A. Nylander - lol
9. Sergachev - punted for Drouin. Worked out for him.
10. Jost - punted for a rental (Nico Sturm) at the deadline

I'd take it further and say the conference will be alot tougher as well. Ottawa definitely improved, likely Detroit too. Not sure about Buffale but they should be better (of COURSE a long way to go rosters aren't final yet alot can change). habs won`t suck as much.

As for the conference Columbus added Mr Hockey, Carolina added Burns and MaxPac, Islanders should be better... overall alot of teams got better and points will be harder to get.
I'm not sure about Islanders, but you could say that there isn't that much bottom dwellers of the league in the East. All the rebuilding teams are now in the West. Bruins is going down a bit, mostly because of the injuries and they got their goalie problems. It will be very competitive conference and division next season.

Oilers will walk into the playoffs next season and get pretty easy opponent on first round, because West is so bad and they will be praised for it.

I don’t think the NY media care much about Hockey, lol.
Did Johnny even entertain the Islanders?
Personally, I just think hockey players naming Johnny and Islanders just don’t mix.

John Gaudreau is definitely a big fish catch for the Blue Jackets.

Who is he competing with in Columbus for athlete of the city?

They play what every second weekend?
Generally 7 home games a year, but I don't think you get how big Ohio State football is in Columbus and the entire state. Next TV contract for the conference Ohio State plays in (Big Ten) is estimated to reach $100 million/year. That's for each school, not total.

No, I realize how even the smaller colleges in the US are.

Went to Tampa/St. Petes for a soccer tournament about 2007 and in St. Petes some small college had a stadium almost as big as the run down piece of crap the Stampeders play at.

NCAA is big business and as corrupt as anything can be.

Gaudreau seemed like he was holding a grudge against Calgary for whatever reason during his press conference. Very odd situation.

We played in the worst division in cap history so far

Got the 18 seed in the playoffs and still lost

This after losing an 8/9 game

People stating that the oilers have an easy road while ignoring we had two years of easy first round matchups and still tanked is insane

Why did he not go to nyi or NJ though he makes no sense lol

The NCAA is actually no longer involved in high-level college football. The schools and conferences run everything now. It would be like if each NHL division negotiated its own TV contracts and NHL head office had no control or input.

So if the NCAA isn't involved are they now compensating the players for their work?

People over react about our media when there are other places way tougher especially in other sports. I never hear media as an excuse with the other big sports. I think using the Toronto media as being tough here is a lame excuse.
Yeah, it's tough, but other markets have it tough too. Gaudreau and Calgary....

I bet it's Sutter. It's a love and hate relationship with that guy with a lot of players
Also playing in Canadian cities are no joke. Especially if you don't do well.

He has been criticized many many times for being soft, not being clutch. Especially the years they didn't make the playoffs

I can definitely see a scenario playing out with Matthews. Leafs fans/media criticized Sundin in the 90s for a long long time until Pat Quinn era kicked in

Mats wasn't vocal enough, didn't show passion, didn't have it what it takes to be a captain. Especially the man he was replacing was so well beloved by Leafs

Well that Montreal team in the playoffs was different than in the regular season and same with us. We lost Tavares in first game and Muzzin right after that. Canadiens brought back all their players they could from IR and went all in. We should have won that series despite, but talking about that regular season record is bit misleading. We have put this all on Dubas, but in that case it was our stars that let him and us down.

Oilers won last seed LA Kings without Doughty in seven games and Vezina candidate Markstrom played like shit against them. We have got every possible miracle goalies against us in the playoffs. Last seven of our playoffs, we have played East finalist four times and that in last nine years. In overall our luck has been historically bad.

But it doesn't matter, it's about next season and we should aim to that. Past is past and if you dwell there you never get over it. It's there, it's history, it's excuses, but it really doesn't matter. We have one player that have been here last decade.
