I'd say the Sixers are doing worse in that department. Who is the other top player on the Nets after KD?
Antisemite head case is one of the best dribblers of all time, he had Harden, now has Simmons, and Blake Griffin has been the #5 or 6 on that team for a minute.

No excuse to not have been to one conference final. At least Edmonton has one of those under their belts.

I wanted Tolvanen bad when he was available. You can't teach a player to shoot the puck like that. Hynes may have ruined another one.

When I see Leschyshyn's name, I still think of his dad going through a delayed three team trade.

November 2, 1996: Colorado traded Chris Simon + Leschyshyn to Washington for Keith Jones and a 1998 1st round pick. Simon was holding out and Colorado had to slash some payroll; As I understand it the ownership group was bleeding money despite the Cup win in part to also owning the Nuggets. Also Pierre Lacroix was accumulating 1998 1sts to try to land Vinny Lecavalier. The odd thing was that Washington didn't really need a defenseman.

November 9, 1996: Washington traded Leschyshyn to Hartford for Andrei Nikolishin. Leschyshyn would suit up in two games for the Caps before being moved again. If I had a pile of money, a Leschyshyn Caps jersey might be a fun hipster item.

Who did he ruin here? Don't even tell me Zacha.

I am no fan of John Hynes. I actually think he sucks as a head coach (outside of the fact that he always does play the right goalie) and I know the Nashville fans are way past done with him, but I don't think he ever ruined anybody here.

And it looks like Tolvanen has done well in Seattle so far.

yeah to ruin someone he would have needed players with the potential to be good.

He didn't get the best out of players, but he certainly didn't have much talent to work with

(Zacha! Haha, well, hear me out theoretically)

All of Zacha's entire young NHL career was molded by Hynes era, and he possibly could have been a better player if developed/coached right from the get go, I wouldn't necessarily give Hynes a full pass on that.

I mean from the 4th line duty/benchins, to the low-ice time/mind game shit that he had dealt with or perceived to be dealt, to the AHL stint (later, which admittedly seem to light a fire under his ass). Maybe we should have had him go through AHL from getgo.

Its all water-under-the-proverbial-bridge, because we don't really know the details, and maybe Zacha was always going to turn out that way either way.

Outside of him? We had so many low-grade AHL/fringe forwards come and go . I was just perusing the hockey-reference site going through all the season's Hynes was coaching. Couldn't even process all these names, major brain shell shock: Beau Bennette, Luke Gazdic, Nick Lappin, Sergey Kalinin, etc. plus all the guys we do remember, Yayo, Cams, and some of the other specials.

Most of the forwards that were not highly touted draft picks, never did good anyway and never really had much of a career if/after they left NJ.

Sergey Kalinin. He was ruined by Hynes. He should have been an staple NHL guy..........:sarcasm:

Haha, what an odd situation for Fitz. I wonder how many GMs have had to pass on their own son on waivers. It can’t be many.

“Son, I love you, but I wouldn’t take you on my team for f***ing free”

Well articulated. Haha.

Yeah, that is pretty rare situation.

I think his approach took a bit of wind out of the sails of Zacha and Hischier. They were so overly focused on covering defensively to my eyes that it took a bit away from their offensive growth. Just my thought, and maybe it's typical of how NHL players are developed. Ruff has let the offensive creativity flow for the young guys and only this year really started to rein in the pushing for offense a bit.

In case anybody needed a podcast to listen to. Some interesting stories although not as much from Lombardi's San Jose's days. The difference between being a GM in the early 90's vs the late 00's is fun to hear from somebody who had to go through it. Lombardi mentions how being a GM isn't just about scouting players and making trades/signings. He'd have to devote energy towards meetings with marketing and other financial aspects of the organization.

He lamented how it's more difficult now to have trade talks without having names gets leaked out to the press. He noted that back in the day there wasn't as much year-to-year turnover among a team's group of scouts, so there was a bit more loyalty to the organization. Whereas nowadays a scout might be working for your team knowing he has a promotion lined up with another team for the following season. He told a funny story about St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong being annoyed about a leak within his group. Armstrong asked Lombardi if it was okay if he leaked a fake rumor involving a trade offer with the Kings. Armstrong told the suspected leak and sure enough the rumor was published in the local paper the next day.

Lombardi mentioned Darryl Sutter being extra tough on Jeff Friesen early in his career and how it helped him become a better player, but also noted how a coach might not be able to do that nowadays with the increased media focus.

Lombardi admitted that he was out of touch regarding drugs/substances. In the wake of a couple Kings getting caught, he met with some FBI agents who showed him what players might be getting into and he was shocked. Lombardi met with a couple NFL teams who have internal people who monitor this sort of thing. When he tried to implement that in LA, the NHLPA pushed back and insisted that the players would go to them for help and not individual teams.

And Curtis Leschyshyn also moved with two teams and was on the roster for three new teams in his career - Que to Colorado, Hartford to Carolina, and Minnesota II.
