What Boston is doing is bananas. On pace for 139 points which would be a record.

Of course they are a couple of losing streaks away from that pace coming to an end, but still.

I kind of don’t get it. I mean full credit to them and they do have a very good roster on paper. But historically good? It’s not like they added a couple of hall of famers during the off-season or something. Let’s see if they to live up to this regular season record in the playoffs.

I still expect them to crash a bit....

They didnt seem THAT good when we faced them for the home and home relative to how our highs have been, and we werent even finishing at the levels we have seen this season.

I think by seasons end it will even out a bit.

Who is good in the Atlantic? They have 3 teams and 2 of those teams have been middling.

The Bruins did beat the Devils twice..

Metro has 5 teams with the 9th seed also being a Metro team.

It’s pretty friggin nuts. Lindholm has been a revelation for them, but he’s not the reason they’re on an historical pace. Their core is old too, outside of 🍝, Carlo, and fetal alcohol syndrome face McAvoy.

Yeah I thought Slaf was supposed to be a project? If he wasn't drafted #1 he probably would have started elsewhere, sorta like Hughes in his rookie year when he clearly wasn't ready physically.

Yeah and they even said themselves he was a project. I don't think Jack and Slaf are really comparable at all outside of neither being good as rookies.

Jack had the elite skill and flashed it constantly. He struggled due to physical immaturity but I think the bigger thing was just needing to get used to the NHL game. I maintain Jack was better served struggling in the NHL than he would've been just waltzing his way through the NCAA or going to the AHL.

Slaf on the other hand is not nearly as talented and he is a physical specimen. He would've been far better served in the AHL (I think for 2 years as well rather than just one and I think the same for Nemec) learning to be "the guy" at the pro level and honing his skills. Instead he's been jammed into the NHL and has been nothing more than a guy. From what I've read he's been getting worse as time has gone on as well. Earlier in the year he was trying stuff but now it seems after getting rocked multiple times he isn't making plays and is getting rid of the puck as soon as possible.

Obviously things are super early on and I was never high on him to begin with but I said if he was jammed into the NHL too early then you'd just end up holding him back offensively and he'd turn into like a 3rd line defensive wing. He is not nearly good enough or skilled enough yet and he's missing out on crucial development time

Jack being physically ready never mattered really

He was an 18yo superstar whos best bet was to take a lick or two and learn the NHL game. Thats what he did and hes on record saying how beneficial it was for him

Slafkovsky isnt a NA skater so he never should have started up and on as bad a team as Montreal. Plus bigger bodied forwards take longer

Lafreniere as an outside example is just pure mis-scouting and an organization that, quite literally, has never produced an elite forward. Whether he stayed up or went down, he was bound to bust.

Kakko is another one whod have benefitted staying overseas for an extra year, then AHL half a season then NHL. Bigger body quite euro kid who the bright lights of NYC was too much for early (maybe for Slafkovsky it was seeing condoms in the Quebecois bathrooms)

Am I missing something? What’s going on with Slafkovsky?
Probably just growing pains but he’s been awful in the last 10 or so games, so he seems on a downward trajectory.

Also, reading the Habs fans in the prospect thread some of them think he’s starting to play more timid and trying to avoid mistakes rather than make plays. So I believe they’re concerned he is being corralled into playing like Just A Guy rather than learning how to be special.

————-

In the long run, it probably won’t matter how bad he’s been so far this year if he is going to be special. He will learn where he needs to grow, work in the offseason, and be better every year.

The Habs are mucking up Slaf's development, for one he should have been playing in the WJC's.

I don't think Slafkovsky should be in the NHL at this point but boy do I dislike sending pros to the WJCs. They should probably let him play the rest of the season in the A, even though he has lost a year of free agency already.
