What Boston is doing is bananas. On pace for 139 points which would be a record.

Of course they are a couple of losing streaks away from that pace coming to an end, but still.

I kind of don’t get it. I mean full credit to them and they do have a very good roster on paper. But historically good? It’s not like they added a couple of hall of famers during the off-season or something. Let’s see if they to live up to this regular season record in the playoffs.

to think all the talk of not wanting vets and players over 28 years old bleh bleh bleh.

As I've said over and over, the 30-something year olds in Boston are clear exceptions to the rule.

Bergeron is better than most 26 years old, same with Marchand. Don't care if they're 37 and 34.

Krejci is another one.

Look at how pathetically washed up their cup winning teammate Milan Lucic has been for YEARSSSSSSSS now.

And he's younger than all of them.

Marchand's is kind of ridiculous when you think about it. He signed an 8 year extension right before the 2016-17 season (that didn't actually kick in until the following season), which was his first PPG season and he's been over a PPG every season of that contract.

I don't know what's in the water over there between Marchand blossoming at 27-28 and Bergeron aging like a fine wine.

The water drains from what used to be Brady’s house. If you test it there is probably a bunch of “avocado” in it.

They have the opposite culture of what a team with PK Subban has. It's the kind of environment that would make even a Pavel Zacha try.

I’d actually find it more acceptable if it was the first they sent for Claude Giroux, because at least he’s a good player.

Well, I wouldn’t be psyched about another round of ammo for the Flyers to get Bedard, so I’m glad it wasn’t for the Giroux pick.

But for a worthless suck defenseman like Ben Chiarot? They could have gotten someone way better for an unprotected first.

Credit to Montreal for squeezing out the unprotected 1st. Florida didn't have a ton of cap space and barely could fit Chiarot with Montreal eating 50%. That might have prevented them from getting somebody better. I forgot that Florida traded away Frank Vatrano to open up some cap space before the deadline.

Boston got Hampus Lindholm at the deadline for a former 1st/C level prospect, a 2022 1st, 2023 2nd, and 2024 2nd. But I don't think Florida could have squeezed in Lindholm unless they got another team to retain a portion. And Lindholm negotiated an extension with Boston as part of the deal as I understand it. Florida wouldn't have been able to do that.

The other LD at the deadline were pretty pedestrian: Jeremy Lauzon (2nd rounder), Nathan Beaulieu (7th rounder), Mark Giordano (two 2nds + 3rd, Florida would have needed double retention), Robert Hagg (6th rounder), Brett Kulak (2nd rounder), Nick Leddy (2nd + Walman + Sundqvist, Florida would have needed double retention), Jacob Middleton (Kaapo Kahkonen), Travis Dermott (3rd rounder).

Maybe they could have been in the market for somebody like Carson Soucy but Seattle didn't have to deal him last year.

But yeah, Zito (and probably their owner) were prisoners of the moment and got a little overzealous. On the bright side, their attendance is up ~1,500 a game so far this season.

And the Habs get their 1st rounder for 30 games of Ben Chiarot

This has shades of Kurvers for Niedermayer if the Florida pick ends up being in the top 5. Or for a more recent example, Zhitnik for Coburn.

Of course, the Habs will need to not screw up their pick and that's not a given with them.

I’m not giving the Habs credit for that. Literally everyone knew Chiarot was getting a 1st since like November. Tons of people knew it was moronic but everyone knew he’s exactly the piece moron (apparently even smart ones 4x4.75 lololololololol) GMs pay for

Unbelievable that a team with McDavid and Draisaitl is in danger of missing the playoffs. They just refuse to surround these guys with talent. Is there another sport where the two best players in the league were forced to wallow on mediocre teams for this long? It's kind of shameful.

On a different note...I really think Dallas has all the ingredients to go on a long playoff run.

Dallas does look good to me. The have offensive flair they have not had too often and they always play hard. Oettinger looks very good as well. Winnipeg is also having a very good season but hasn't gotten much press.

It's the cycle of incompetence that starts from the top, all the way from the ownership. Groundhog day year in year out. They're not winning anything with Holland steering the wheel. That bozo got gifted the best player in the league and another who is on a very team friendly contract mind you and he still f***ed it up. Sure, Chiarelli left a mess behind him, not denying that. But look at their team structure. No depth scoring, badly structured defense, no prospects that could really help them out while on their ELC's, bad goaltenders outside of Skinner, no cap space, lackluster drafting. Shut out McDrai and that's that. Those guys carried the shit out of them in the playoffs and they still got their asses kicked in the third round and it wasn't even close. It's an embarrassment to the league itself and a tradegy to see McDavid wasting his prime in Edmonton. /rant

I personally have Dallas coming out of the west. Colorado might be the one to overtake them though if they get healthy and snap out of their funk to make a late season surge. Vegas is very strong, again, but I'll still hold on to my bet of Dallas being the top dog. Winnipeg might have a chance but I don't see them going far.

I actually was an Angels fan (I lived in the area for awhile) but gave up on that f***ing team, watching them piss away Trout was too much.

Well, that and it’s been two decades since they’ve had decent pitching. Baseball lost me when every pitcher started getting TJS, it’s so f***ed up now.

I'm not a huge baseball fan so maybe I'm wrong here but Mike Trout and the Angels seem like a similar if not worse situation. Two teams absolutely wasting their sports best players.

Edit: Looks like I'm a bit late with this comparison. Great minds I guess.

Is he any good?
Probably a career minor league player.

I didn't know too much about him, but then I realized he's already turning 26 next month and has only played 59 games in the NHL, all coming this year and last. He was in the minors 3 full years before this. He did go the full 4 years in college, but likely nothing more than a body to call up at the NHL level.
