Which is unfortunate because such concerns should be secondary and tertiary at best. All these leagues have become far too political, which is an outgrowth of the corporate-government complex. Do people really enjoy military night? I find it over-the-top and counterproductive.
It may make some teams think twice but I doubt nobody would want him. Professional sports teams overlook character issues for talent all the time. Hell, his own teammate TAD is on what his third chance now?@Zajacs Bowl Cut Wouldn't his consequences happen in Free Agency?
I don't think any team would want him.
Yeah one is a career choice and one is a human rights issue. They are totally not comparablei always find it funny with military stuff. like this guy/gal went to fight for our freedoms and lifestyle to choose this and that. now you MUST stand and not have a choice to support them
DeAngelo is still in the league, but he's lost millions and millions of dollars that he would've otherwise earned had he not had his issues. It may make some teams think twice but I doubt nobody would want him. Who's dodging?
I was stating fact.
hes definitely not the only one that feels this way so someone has to be the first there definitely will be others now.
Most players probably choose to go with the flow and avoid making political statements regardless of their personal beliefs, knowing that creating a spectacle could distract the team. That's my guess anyway.
But you're right, you would think it would come up before now, given how many NHL players have been outspoken about their faith.
I find the New Religion vs Old Religion debates to be fascinating. I'm not a fan of either,Talk about Provorov but we are NOT having a holy war debating religion here
i think if people stay civil its a good discussion to have.Talk about Provorov and the issue at hand but we are NOT having a holy war debating religion here
For the record, by the way, I was referring to Provorov and not with the NHL players in general. It was poorly worded on my part.
I'm of the mind that it's incredibly tone deaf of him to think this would not be an issue or distraction to his team. And I'm curious why it would be a thing to him now when these nights have been taking place for years, presumably meaning he's worn the warmup jersey in the past.
The league does this to create awareness and raise money towards organizations to promote inclusion. I'm not saying anyone has to agree with everything because that isn't how it tends to go in society, but to take this type of stance just screams incapability of reading the room. Especially with teammates in Laughton and JVR who are more involved with supporting this cause.

From what I saw on the Flyers board, they have not worn pride jerseys in the past - last year they had a pride night, but that just included rainbow colored stick tape for warmups, which Provorov declined to participate in.
Politics in every aspect in our lives is not healthy for our society as a whole. People need escapes from reality and sports is not reality, it's entertainment.
I’m not sure how long they’ve been doing the specialized jerseys for it, that seems to be a recent phenomenon. But to me this is even sillier than it is offensive, first of all who even sees you in the warmup jersey other than a handful of fans in attendance? Second of all it’s a frigging jersey that you’ll wear for fifteen minutes then never again. And quite honestly he gets nothing out of his little protest other than cheap attention (which might be what he’s going for) and headaches. Teams aren’t going to cease doing Pride Night because one clown won’t wear a shirt for fifteen minutes.I'm really curious how this has only come up now when the NHL has been doing this night with every team in the league for how many years now?

That horse was already out of the barn from minute one of the tangent, which doesn’t surprise me. More wars have been started about religion than anything else but it’s just a lame excuse here for this protest.i think if people stay civil its a good discussion to have.
Golden Rule. Non-aggression principle. Simple stuff. However, it get's really dicey when you have megachurches or large corporate conglomerates pushing social engineering in either direction. Does the general population really need a night to recognize that bullying in all spectrums is wrong? Because that's an irredeemable population if you ask me.people should just let other people do their thing and if there are consequences for that from a god or an after life then thats on them. never understood whats so hard for people to realize about it.
What LGBT rights were actually violated, when he decided not to don the themed jersey? I think we tend to get sucked into this over-socialization feedback model and conflate feelings with right violations.I still have yet to see anyone adequately articulate what exactly is the just cause Provorov ‘believes’ in that isn’t something negative when you protest a hockey for all night.
And the fact LGBT rights are viewed as ‘political’ is everything that’s wrong with society now.
