I was totally confusing Kevin Rooney with Jimmy Vesey when I read this...was wondering how he fell so quickly from first line winger to waivers.
He wishes he were as good as Jimmy Vesey

But if you want me to say something nice about him, Rod Pelley wishes he were as good as Kevin Rooney.

why's he a shitbag?
He sucked. Hated how much I had to see him here.

Say what you want about McLeod (who may be a gigantic piece of shit, we haven’t heard nothing about that in almost two months, it’s almost like it just went away) but the guy is a way better player and 4C than skilless try-hard Rooney. Can’t believe he even got a two year deal this off-season, but it was for such little money that the cap hit is minuscule.

He seemed to be someone Shero liked, but Fitz might have just let him go because he was getting up there in age and you really don’t wanna re-sign borderline replacement level players like this after they become UFA and are late 20’s.

Kevin Rooney is a good guy. Calling him a shitbag is ridiculous. A shitbag is used for awful people. He’s just a JAG, plug, grinder, in hockey terms, but a great guy. You gotta calm it down sometimes Mr Bleed.
Fair enough.

I was never implying he was bad PERSON, just a bad hockey player at the NHL level. That’s all I mean. Nothing personal to Kevin Rooney the man.

Do I hate him as a player as much as the decrepit #29? No, because he won’t kill you as bad as a goalie.

…Rooney wasn’t that bad and he was a solid PKer too.

You might be confusing the emotions you experienced from watching his most common linemate 5v5, who Rooney carried like an anvil chained to his leg:

Calgary is 20th in GF/GP and their prospect Matthew Phillips is the leading the AHL with 30 points in 20 games. He’s listed at 5’7” and 140 lol, they must have put a gun to Sutter’s head.

Anyhoo, one of the dozen 30 something grinders who can’t score had to get waived.

man there are just whole seasons I've completely blacked out. Legitimately don't remember him playing for us at all, and he was here for 43 games!

you want obscure? had my memory jogged recently about stephane veilleux

I did enjoy Minnesota being petty with Veilleux during their RFA negotiations. They waived him in the offseason and he went unclaimed, basically management's way of telling his agent "he ain't worth as much as you think."

And then from the main board Marek Zidlicky trade thread, I remember somebody posting something along the lines of "I can't believe the Devils gave up five assets for Zidlicky." The five "assets":

2nd round pick + 3rd round pick
Nick Palmieri - 9 games for Minnesota
Kurtis Foster - impending UFA, 14 games for Minnesota
Stephane Veilleux - impending UFA

From Jersey w/ Love
So Ovechkin is 99 away from tying Gretzky.

Both guys had a shortned lockout season... But Ovechkin lost a full season. I still think Ovechkin beats it.

If you account for eras, like when Gretzky played against defeseman smoking in between periods.... gotta figure Ovechkin is the all-time greatest goal scorer. Though he did play against Zubov, so thats probably one smoking dman.

Seeing that guy's name annoys me because it always reminds me of Devils Dad night (or whatever it's called) where Bratt was healthy scratched just 'cause John's old man was in attendance. :madfire:

I normally wouldn't pay attention or care but...
I have NEVER seen NHL.com leave a story on the front page for a week and then at the tail end of said week bump it into the main story, EVER.
until they posted the "Last Laf" lafrienere/rangers story...

Rooney's carved out an NHL career for himself with the most pedestrian AHL and collegiate numbers you can imagine. I don't miss him being on the team and I can't believe anyone gave him a two-year contract, but here's a guy who scored 17 goals over a 4 year college career and ended up playing 200 NHL games.

I’m not pining for his return to NJ but I’m glad he carved out a career for himself. He has had to work hard for any success he’s had.

At times, Vitek can be a rebound machine.
At least he’s not a soft goal machine like the decrepit #29 and doesn’t get beaten the most minuscule of screens like that shit head does.

He kind of did last night though.

And yeah, his rebound control sucked too. Which is why he had to make that highlight reel save in the first place.

Didn't Hynes sit Bratt so Hayden could play because Hayden's Dad was at a game? Or did I just make that up in my own mind?
