they shouldn’t lose their jobs over it but they definitely should be fully criticized.
They failed to fully vet a signing that caused a major pr snafu (which could have harmed sponsorships) and will likely cost team money as I’m sure the matter will be grieved and they will have to pay the full amount. That’s a fireable offense in most businesses.

And let’s be honest this probably isn’t a case of improper vetting, as it is they thought the negative pr would blow over. It probably got too much for ownership and the “new information” stuff is an attempt to win a grievance to cancel the contract.

Edit: and I should add I doubt the pressure on Neely and Sweeney is going to die down in the short term. This isn’t the Arizona situation where there was a new GM and he could pass it off to the old hockey ops staff.

They should both get in front of cameras and press and admit how bad they botched this and answer every single question they get on it. For a team who had the start they have had its really mind numbing they did this.

I would not be so sure this will be grieved, the NHLPA obviously isn't thrilled with everything going on here, but I'm not sure they go to bat for this guy. I think they'd object to Bettman's characterization of the situation where he just flat out said that Miller is ineligible for play in the NHL while also registering the contract, but I'd be surprised if they want this one in the hockey headlines for months.

There is one guy they have to answer to. I’m skeptical they signed Miller without going over thr potential blowback with JACOBS. They may have underestimated the negative press but what vetting can you do for this? I doubt they were fooled by the agent. Their prosect pool is terrible and they just tried to add to it like it was still 1985. Did they think that even if he did some charity work this would end well?

This is seriously one of the stupidest dumb shit things I’ve seen in quite a while in the hockey world.

I’m immediately thinking of the Billy Madison “We are all dumber” after having say through the last 50-something hours of this dumpster fire.

I don’t know if this is more funny on the Bruins part or just sad.

I know it’s definitely embarrassing.

This is almost like trying to sneak a player through waivers after the preseason. Boston thought they'd be able to sneak this through and didn't anticipate the backlash, deservedly so, that accompanied it. Having said the deservedly so part, I am sure there will be some on here that will side with Miller saying that he was a kid, he's apologized, etc in a similar fashion as they did with the players in the Hockey Canada scandal.

The Bruins claimed they did "months of research" into him and it took journalists less than 2 days to completely obliterate all the lies his agent was pushing.
It took them 1 month to figure out his name from a blurry game feed their scouts gave them.

It then took them a month to get in contact with the Coyotes to see if he's still their prospect - Mainly due to the Coyotes management working out of a shipping container that was left in the ASU arena's parking lot.

Have you or anyone here been to their board at all lately?

I'm curious how their fans here are taking this whole fiasco....

None of this is funny at all, though I must admit I'm deeply enjoying Cam Neely having to each shit publicly. f*** that guy.

What a f***ing disaster. This was the most obviously bad idea of all time. And people think hockey doesn't have a problem, when there are guys like Dumb and Dumber in the B's front office.

I was following the threads over there, the vast majority of them were pissed off about them signing him, didn't understand why they would cloud their great start to the season by signing someone like this. Others are calling for Neely and Sweeneys jobs now over it as well. They also jammed the Boston Bruins feedback application about how they were annoyed on their website to the point it responded saying they are getting so many submissions that they were sending generic responses back because of it.

The vast majority are happy he's gone now but annoyed that their players had to field questions about this stuff and have it overshadow their start to the season when the players had nothing to do with this douche being signed.

There were a very few trying to defend this shit bag but that seems to be the case everywhere.

did the best team in the league really need this? what the hell were they thinking? nobody considered the risk vs the reward? holy shit
well they figure if the hawks could openly mock a player who was sexually abused why can't they sign this kid?
