Yeah a court mandated apology is not an apology at all lmao.
It's a problem with any culture where someone isn't told "no" or "stop being an idiot". Jock culture, entertainment culture, top of the corporate culture, etc. Once people think they are more important or more correct than they really are it brings out the worst in them. You mean the one that was ‘court-mandated’?
So you’re an apologist, good to know

No, I'm a reasonable person who thinks that someone who did something awful in 8th grade and has done absolutely nothing wrong since should be able to get a second chance. For example: there were a group of kids who made my life he'll in middle school and literally tossed a giant rock through my window and got nicked by the cops. Years later I ended up friends with that same person because people change. You mean the one that was ‘court-mandated’? The one the family claims they never saw or heard?

Dude this wasn’t ‘one’ mistake that was made, you’re buying his PR statement hook, line and sinker. It was literally YEARS of him being a sadistic punk. And there’s some dispute over him ‘doing nothing wrong since 8th grade’ to put it mildly. No, I'm a reasonable person who thinks that someone who did something awful in 8th grade and has done absolutely nothing wrong since should be able to get a second chance. The group of kids I mentioned spent years being sadistic punks and bullies to me to the point I hated going to school.Dude this wasn’t ‘one’ mistake that was made, you’re buying his PR statement hook, line and sinker. As someone who knows people whose family members who were killed by drunk drivers I find DUI quite hard to forgive.he didnt say a mean word or get a DUI. Those things can be forgiven.
what he did lasted for a LONG time
f*** him.
No worries, the Bruins got Mitchell to tie those loose ends up before he signed that contract.
Sure, people change, but you have to earn it.No, I'm a reasonable person who thinks that someone who did something awful in 8th grade and has done absolutely nothing wrong since should be able to get a second chance. If that last bit is true the mom deserved to have to answer for herself in front of a judge every bit as much as her son did.
I believe in rehabilitation, truly and completely. Even for something as disgusting as this.
But the key the rehabilitation is that you should demonstrate that in some fashion. I can’t tell what’s in someone’s heart so he needs to do things, probably publicly, even if it’s just for show. Something that somebody can point to and be like “here he is making amends.”
Sweeney saying “this might be a mistake” doesn’t exactly tell me that’s been happening.
This is a bafflingly dumb comparison. No, I'm a reasonable person who thinks that someone who did something awful in 8th grade and has done absolutely nothing wrong since should be able to get a second chance. They did a LOT more than that, which I noted a few posts later. Constant Neverending harassment. And you know what I was essentially told by the school principal? "Fight them". Seriously, that is not a joke. This is a bafflingly dumb comparison.
Yeah, I agree. If you made *a* mistake at a young age, depending on the severity, at some point you should be forgiven and allowed to move on with your life endeavors.
That is not what he did. He physically and emotionally tortured a kid for years. That is not just a kid throwing a rock through a window.
All these teams GMs preach "character". Yeah, I'm not betting on the character of a guy who tortured someone for years without ever showing any contrition. The Bruins players even questioned why Sweeney did this.
The NHL shows its ass once again. What a f***ing clownshow of a league.
Second chances for what he's done should need to be earned. He has done absolutely f***ing nothing. He can't even do the bare f***ing minimum
Idea: He gives half his earnings for this season to the victim as a former of restitution.Yeah I mean on one hand it was 8th grade and kids do really dumb and cruel shit when they’re that age. But this kid doesn’t even seem the least bit remorseful and only made a statement because he was told to. I don’t think his right to earn a living should be taken away but if you’re going to be an NHL player you better take the necessary steps to better yourself as a person and show that you have righted whatever wrongs you did. Bruins should make that kid do hours upon hours of community service.
He actually co-owns a soccer team with Rob McElhenney in one of the low-tier English leagues. Obviously the financial obligations are much, much higher between a low-tier soccer club and an NHL team, but he does have some amount of experience. He would definitely have to be a part of an ownership group, but I wouldn't write him off as just a guy with a face.
Weird how all these old white dudes keep making terrible moral decisions.
