I don't think anyone is necessarily expecting him to drop the gloves (and Rupp specifically says this twice in the video), but he was certainly instigating (or at least escalating) things with Konecny and did absolutely nothing while his teammates jumped in for him. According to Rupp, there's a history of Matthews doing this - though I can't speak to that being the case myself.

I think it's valid criticism, but can also see where others think this is a whole lot of nothing. I'm sure it's exhausting for Toronto fans (and especially players) to have so much media attention for every little thing that goes on with that team.

I like that the Devils largely fly under the radar (though a bit more coverage would be nice) and that I can easily afford to take my family out to games.

yeah its a fine line he has to walk he needs some snarl but doesn't need to be throwing punches. i dont buy the not tough enough aspect of it for a team failing i think they are just stuck in a super tough division thats at its peak while their window is open talk about unfortunate timing

devils are going to get more coverage eventually. it already started with a long article in the athletic about their underlying numbers.

but if they play like this and sustain success for a couple of years they will have two american golden boys in the hughes brothers and the media will certainly take notice of that

thats why its a no brainer to expect their brother to join them it will be right when everything is coming together in the prime of their careers

I think he's overstating how much it affects Toronto's chances for success, but he's definitely right about it being a dick move for Matthews to stand there while his teammates fight on his behalf. The only guy who gets to do that is the goalie, and even they sometimes get more involved in scrums than that.
Exactly.

Even Jesper Bratt got into it with opposing players and he's like 5ft 10 and 175 lbs soaking wet.

Auston is 6ft 3 205 lbs

I'm guessing this would be like when Jay-Z bought the Nets or Magic Johnson bought the Dodgers, just the minority owner public face for a group of financial backers.
He actually co-owns a soccer team with Rob McElhenney in one of the low-tier English leagues. Obviously the financial obligations are much, much higher between a low-tier soccer club and an NHL team, but he does have some amount of experience. He would definitely have to be a part of an ownership group, but I wouldn't write him off as just a guy with a face.

bro what the HELL

Weird how all these old white dudes keep making terrible moral decisions.

Ryan Reynolds was a “significant” owner of a Gin brand that sold for $600+ million.

So he will need an investors group but I think he could be a partner in the group rather than just a minority owner.

What makes me laugh is the dude has done zippo professionally. It’s one thing when Kyrie acts like a choad and everyone looks the other way, at least his proven NBA All-Star talent is a reason for people to be moral jackasses, but to do it for a frigging prospect?!

And it's not like the Bruins are languishing in the basement and desperate for talent. Like if you saw Arizona change its mind and sign him, you'd understand.

But this is just weird. The Bruins have a good team and didn't need to take this reputational damage to pick up a meh prospect.

An incident from 8th grade typically shouldn't brand a kid for life, but what he did was downright evil. I get that the Bruins' pipeline is hurting, but this is a massive yikes.

Honestly, Miller on NHL ice will be akin to putting a child predator in prison. He will regret ever signing.

C’mon now it’s not like old white guys own stupid. That’s also not a hockey related comment. We can discuss the universal stupidity of all shapes and sizes of humanity on the TaN.

I am trying to figure out how he was supposed to contact the victim's family to apologize when he is (quite understandably) legally forbidden from having any contact with them?

A public apology, some contrition, some apology for the other people he’s wronged? There’s been none of that because he’s a self entitled twat who had no consequences for any of his actions until his career got put in peril, then he finally put out some half assed attempt at contrition too little and far too late.
